If you didn't know already-the market for cast recordings in America is very small. EXTREMELY SMALL! People are losing money daily on cast recordings. I know most of you don't care about that part...but you have to factor it in. If you worked for a record label...you'd feel the heat in your pay cuts! lol

The bulk of America will not buy cast recordings. Those who do will buy recordings of shows they can sing along to..songs they can audition with..new fresh..mostly Pop-ish showtunes.

Not only is no one gonna be singing along to "Anne on my Arm" in the shower in this day and age...but the the show IS preserved already. Yes...it's the old fashioned recording with dance music missing, blah blah blah...BUT you get the jist of the show. It's not that much different...and even if the cast is "better", it doesnt costitute the producers losing tons of money paying the cast Equity scale, etc...for an album that may sell 100 copies.

The petition is silly.

and AGAIN - this explains MULTIPLE recordings of anything that Songheim has ever breathed on, as well as Wonderful Town, Little Women, BROOKLYN (!), and on and on and on. Forgive me if my failure to understand why a show with a wonderful score, performed by an incredible cast, doesn't merit a recording while these others - both old and new - do.

Yes, the recording may not happen because of the extreme costs involved. Thank you for pointing that out. I doubt that there are many people interested in this wonderful production being preserved that do not understand the enormous cost associated with creating an album. We understand that. But to call the petition silly is just being a poor sport. How else do we let the producers know of at least a portion of the interest that is out there? We are simply doing what we can to try. There is no harm and definitely no shame in doing so.

You took the words right out of my mouth, Mamie. Recording revivals has not been an issue in recent years and it's really unfortunate that it has become one with such a top-notch score and production. If Wonderful town can muster not only a revival cast recording, but an additional one with a stunt cast member added, you'd think someone could give "La Cage" what it deserves. I realize that it is costly and the show is not selling as well as hoped (wishing that would change), but less successful revivals have been recorded before. And honestly, I would rather sing along to "With you on my Arm" than many other songs that have made it onto countless cast albums.

You might have a better chance if, instead of signing a petition, you sent them MONEY! Think of it. It could be the first cast album payed for by the fans. So if you really want to get it done send $20.00 to the above addresses. Of course, you may never see the CD and you probably won't get your money back, but, hey...at least you can say you tried.

Over 200 names in a day and a half! GOOD JOB GUYS! But...It could be Much better - Lets REALLY do this and get the word out. I am telling as many people as I can and posting it in as many places that I know too online. Anyone else is welcome to do the same.

The suggestion of $$$ is really a good one, but I am sending the letter first and then if we have to set up a pay pal account if we hear nothing Then we'll go from there. We the fans will back this CD happen come hell or high water!

to all the nay-ayers:
look at it this way---> say your fave band is U2. would you rather have a CD with them performing the songs or a cover band performing the songs? the people who wish for a recording of the revival cast are wanting for what they saw, not what they may have not seen.
does this make sense?

It is happening according to Gary Beach who was on Downstage Center on XM Radio a few days ago. They played a clip of Gary singing "I am what I am" Which led to this exchange. (or something very close to it.

Host (John Van Soosten): This is just a recording for a commercial for the show though correct?

Gary: Yes that is correct.

Host: But there are plans to record a cast recording?

Gary: Yes there wll be a recording as of now.

Not too much considering most people have cast recordings have not seen the ORIGINAL cast. By your reasoning there should be a new Rent cast recording everytime someone new takes over one of the roles.

Oh, but that is the reason I do not own Mama Mia. Why buy the cast album when the ABBA recordings are soooo much better?

Was the point of this petition to encourage the recording of a NEW cast album of the revival?

If so, perhaps you should have mentioned that?
