Well...I can't say much for DRACULA, I honestly hated it, but still believe that ANY art form deserves the right to be recorded. But Keep up the LA CAGE signitures folks. I was hoping for 1,000 by Fri, but Im starting to get really worried! WE CAN & WILL DO IT! Somehow that is FAIR! Anyone want to stand outside the theatre?? :

If I were in NY I'd be out there with you La Cage. I'm hoping this petition helps and I'm praying for lots of Tony noms. With all those together, who knows? Naysayers like Musetta serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever. I guess their only joy is to knock others. I fail to see how having a CD of La Cage can possibly hurt Musetta or anybody else. (If I'm wrong, tell me how.)
At any rate, I continue to support this effort and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will succeed. I believe I've seen just about every musical currently playing on Broadway and musically this one beats them all hands down. (And that includes Wicked). It definitely deserves to be recorded.

"I guess their only joy is to knock others."
Only? No, just one of many.
I'm not anti-La Cage or anti-cast albums. I'm anti-futility.

Anyone who finds this endeavor futile should just scroll past this post because it's going to be another rant about what the hell can be done to get this to happen...
Lacageauxfollesfan2, Dame, Mamie: did you all write any letters or emails? If so, to who? I'm ready to go, but I'm not sure what will be most effective, so what do you advise? I have spoken with Mr. Krasker at PS Classics and he informed me that they were tossing around the idea of recording La Cage and actually met with the producers who were uninterested in putting up the money it would take. He specifically mentioned that sometimes angels or benefactors step in and contribute large financial sums at the last minute to cover the costs that a small label like themselves cannot handle alone and that if something like this were to happen, they would be more than interested. Basically, he was very kind and informative, but said he wished he could be more optimistic. Does anyone else have a problem with the fact that there is a record label reading and willing to record this show, but the producers won't put up the damn money?! It's making me crazy!
Is the petition still going to be sent to Mr. Herman and Mr. Fierstein? I know it's wishful thinking because if they wanted to contribute they probably would have done so already, but maybe they will step up to the plate eventually.
I don't know...I'm sorry for rambling, but I just don't get it. I mean each time we've been to see this production, people are flocking to the merchandise counters at intermission asking to purchase a cd of the cast they are currently seeing. I'm talking mothers with young children and blue-haired elderly women, not just obsessed musical theatre fans like ourselves. People are genuinely interested in a recording of this cast, so why don't the producers see that?
If any of you have any suggestions on who I should write to or anything else we can do in addition to this petition, please let me know. Feel free to PM anything if you don't want to post in the thread. Thanks again! I just want to see this happen!

I'm thinking Herman and Fierstein just might be the two to write to now. Maybe with their input or encouragement, others might be swayed. I just don't know.
I've seen the same thing you have at the theatre. I just wish there were some way of capturing those people on this petition. The support of those who have seen the petition (which I believe is limited to those who regularly access theatre web sites like this one) has been disappointing. I'm not sure if they think they have to commit themselves in any way or record their addresses on a database or what the problem is. Instead of supporting this outlet of theatre they create failure by refusing to even try. And if you can't get someone who supposedly supports theatre to take one lousy minute of their time to sign the petition, then what chance do you have? They truly have created failure.
It's just depressing.

Mamie, I agree, it is depressing. The petition letter with several hundred signatures will make a statement when the recipients receive their copies. I was hoping for 1,000 signatures like everyone else, but at least this says, "We love this show and we're trying. No, we cannot give you a list of thousands of people who quarantee to purchase, but we're giving you a list of many, many people who took the time to let you know how important this is and how much it would mean." Besides, they are fools if they receive the petition and assume that only a few hundred people would purchase the album. If one was made, I'd say a good 25% of the audience would purchase the cd at some point before leaving the theatre, if not go across the stree and pick it up at Virgin or go home and order it on Amazon.
In short, I'm still not giving up hope. We've done our part and we should do anything else we can. Like you said, let's write to Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein. If they receive just a couple heartfelt, well-written letters, it might make a difference.
Also, I think we should keep sending emails and letters (maybe call, too) to PS Classics, because they flat-out said that they were interested and still are. The issue is the money because they are a such a small label. As SticktoPriest mentioned, when the recording was announced for Pacific Overtures, he received an email stating that it happened because they received so many requests via mail, phone, and email. So if we keep expressing our interest and OTHERS take the time to do so, too, they will keep looking for ways to make it happen. Just a thought.
Let me know what you're thinking.
Take care.
