Has anyone heard from whoever is in charge about whether or not they have taken our petition and strongly worded letters into consideration? Just wondering, keep me posted!
Munk- Thanks so much for signing. It means a lot to us!

Because everyone else knows how to read the whole board for information before posting their questions.

Although i signed the petition so that the new cd will be downloaded onto the broadwayworld radio database and I can request "I am what I am" over and over and over and over again....
I think the high point of this revival was really the staging and choreography. Beach's voice was a bit weak, at least in the show I saw, and the true appeal of this production was the flying splits.

tommycanuhearme,
Follow-up info. was private messaged to one individual who asked what was happening with the album before the thread began to be filled with more negative comments about this revival. To avoid more negative buzz in a thread devoted to helping the cause, I chose not to comment here. I apologize if I offended you.
The answer your question of where the album stands:
The producers were unaffected by the petition and still refuse to give any of their money to the recording of a cast album. An independent album producer approached the show's producers yet again earlier this month after several attempts to get an album since the show began previews in November. They apparently endorse the idea and would "love" for the show to have a recording, but they will not being helping financially. Therein lies the problem. Several record labels are ready and wanting to manufacture and distribute the album (the album producer has contacted and secured them), but the money to actually record the master, which includes paying for studio time and technicians, the actors, and the musicians, needs to be raised. This funding normally comes from a show's producers, who, in this case, are not looking to help. So, it is now up to the album producer to find individual investors to fund the album in order for it to be recorded. Unless angels and benefactors step forward to fund the master, the album will not happen.
That's where things stand. I hope that helped and again, I apologize for not posting publicly for all interested in the first place.
For those of you that dislike this revival and feel afronted that posts were made on this board looking for investors, I apologize for any inconvenience. No one is trying to step on anyone else's toes. The facts, though, are simple: many, many people want this production recorded, producers and labels are actually trying to make it happen (something that was not happening earlier this year), and finally, it will NOT happen if they cannot find funding somewhere. We just wanted to reach out wherever we can because we're so close to getting this done.
It's just too bad this show doesn't have the backing from the powers that be which is deserves.
Keep your fingers crossed and if anyone has any productive ideas, post them.

So I chose to bring back the tread with which I was first notified of the petition. All I did was ask a question asn teh last time I checked that was still allowed I really dont appreciate your crap and I shouldnt have to explain my actions to people who love to pounce on other people, so I am done for now. I hope that you were extrodinarily pleased with yourself after your b*tchy post

You have GOT to be kidding me. They were UNAFFECTED? What happened to the paypal idea where we send our money to support the recording? I have my $20 right here. Do you think that would help? I know at least two other people who would contribute.

Posted: 3/20/05 at 4:42pmI hate to be a pessimist, but I dont think that $60 ($20 x 3 people) is going to have that much of an impact on the fiancial realities of the recording. It would required thousands of dollars, which I don't think could be collected. And also, please correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt there some sort of issue where you cant just donate to a play or production agency or what-have-you, because its not non-profit, and your contribution would eventually have to be paid back in full? something like that...I dont remember exactly.
#138the thing about the revival
Posted: 3/20/05 at 8:41pmYes, that is indeed the case - the producers were not affected or moved in the least by the petition. And while the donations are a nice offer, donations don't support a recording being made, investments do. Large sums of $$$ are needed. While it would be possible that donations to one individual person - who would inturn benifit and reap all the investment rewards (if there were any). So, it isn't just that simple. Wish it were, but we're still holding out hope for some financial donors to play in our LA CAGE recording hopes!

Posted: 3/28/05 at 10:55amI think that depends on whether there is a sustained spike in ticket sales as a result of Goulet being in the show. It may help chances for a recording actually.

I would have bought a recording with Mr. Davis in the role . I though hs rendition of "Song on the Sand" was beautiful.
I don't even want to hear the boring crooning of Robert Goulet. He can take a wide range of songs and make them sound exactly the same.

I think it's sad we might not get a revival cd. I understand some of the orchestrations were updated and there's plenty of music not on the original cd. One can go out and but Sondheim's scores in 2 or 3 cd sets, COMPLETE, why is it that those who enjoy the old fashioned type Broadway score always get a single cd version. Jerry Herman stated on a question-and-answer session on Broadway.com that he is trying to get one released with the complete score, let's hope it happens.
As for Mr. Goulet, I saw him in Minneapolis a year ago (or so) in South Pacific, and that was a terrible production. Not sure how he will handle La Cage, but it's a good move to attract audiences anyway.
What I would love to see is something done similar to the 2 cd-set of UNSUNG IRVING BERLIN, all of the music he wrote that was not used, this time for Jerry Herman. If you have read his autobio and the book Herman, poet of a showtune, there are dozens of songs sitting in his trunk. Not sure if Herman wants those heard or not. Jerry Herman is my favorite composer. Even his less successful shows like The Grand Tour, Dear World, and especially Mack and Mabel are chalk full of awesome music (my opinion of course).
I just hope and hope that this show goes out on tour, I would be there 4 or 5 times, it's worth the cost, I saw La Cage in its first tour and it starred Peter Marshall (from the old Hollywood Squares) and it was one of my favorite shows of all time. Does anyone know if there are preliminary plans to tour this new production?
