I'll believe it, when it happens.
The last revival annoucned a tour with Beach and Goulet, never happened. Same with Guys and Dolls, Into the Woods, Hair (well it hasn't happened, yet), and a lot of other revivals.

Posted: 5/7/10 at 1:36pmFor the record, this production was also booked for quite an extensive UK tour. Tickets were on sale and it was all set to go. It never happened.

If this show is booked in the huge touring venues that seat three to four thousand people, then I think it would be better that it doesn't tour. The charm and intimacy of this production would be completely lost in most of these barns that call themselves theatres.

Posted: 5/7/10 at 2:21pmwell..most touring venues are 2,000-3,000 capacity. Still large though, I do agree. This show will do very well on tour. Hope they come/start in New Orleans!

South Pacific is an exception.
And when HAiR opens, I'll believe it. Just because a show is booked, doesn't mean it's happening.
Several major tours in the relatively recent past have closed early, or not materialized, for one reason or another. Applause, Whistle Down the Wind and Funny Girl all closed early. The tour of Tarzan was abandoned. Mermaid seems to have been abandoned. The last La Cage was abandoned. Into the Woods was abandoned. The 90s Wizard of Oz and Cinderella tours randomly cancelled stops and went on hiatus.

"well..most touring venues are 2,000-3,000 capacity."
Way too large for this production.

While I'm excited about the tour news, I wonder why annouce it so soon if it's not going to happen until fall of 2011 (besides the fact to try to give it a boost before the Tony's with the out of toun tour house block). I wonder if the show will still be even open on Broadway then (I hope so, it's a delightful producion, but I hope it doesn't get gimmick casted to death).
I would have been more excited though if they announced a cast album. With this on track to possible win best revival and best Actor, and with the tour news, I think they really should scrounge up the $$$ to release a cast album. And they really need to get with someone to start selling their merch online.

I really love this production, but I just don't see the tour happening. The show will likely not even be open Fall 2011 unless they stunt cast it. It's a shame to say that the show simply will not run on critical merit alone. If the show isn't open, I don't see the interest in the show being strong enough to warrant a national tour.
That being said, if it tours, I will be absolutely ecstatic and will definitely make a serious effort to see it if the show is closed on Broadway by then.

Posted: 5/8/10 at 9:41amPerhaps they are announcing it now in the hope that the individual tour city presenters will vote for it in this years awards so that they can soon announce it to their subscribers as "Tony Winner 2010"?
