Thanks for posting.
I had hoped to take the train north to see this, but the planets did not align. I have been following its progress, and it sounds wonderful. Hope it's a great success.
Instead, next June I will take the train north to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The first night, a concert with Renee Fleming appearing with the LA Opera Orchestra. The next afternoon, the LA Opera production of "The Student Prince".
GO, LA Opera !

I really wish American opera houses would take a page from Barrie Kosky’s time at the Komische opera. Yes, he did do WSS, in a rather revelatory production, but for his musical production per season, he dug deep.
I know the financial struggles of opera houses in the US, but I think they all could do better than putting on the same two or three musicals when they decide to go that route: use the opportunity to make art in the process. I’m confident a new audience would emerge if an opera house made the effort.
Edit:
And if you’re going to do WSS, please no more of the bland Zambello production from, among other places, the Lyric in Chicago.
