Previews for John Leguizamo's one-man show, Latin History for Morons, begin in just a few days (Thursday, October 19, 2017) at Studio 54. Arriving on Broadway after engagements at The Public Theater and Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Latin History for Morons is set to open officially on November 15 for a limited run currently through February 4, 2018.
Kicking myself for missing this at The Public this past year.
I’m a little surprised I haven’t seen this pop up on TDF yet, but I guess John Leguizamo’s one-man shows are always pretty popular. The marketing is also pretty great for this one as well. Hoping I can snag a ticket somewhere!
The Today Tix rush is impossible, I have tried that rush several times for various shows and yet at 10AM all tickets are always gone in other people's carts. Not sure what the secret is maybe getting on there at 9:59 and hitting refresh until your thumb falls off?

I bought rush tickets for Jitney, Man From Nebraska and Little Foxes. It was always $7.50. Which show did you pay $12.50 for?
As far as advertising it, the fee is very clearly indicated before you have to purchase the ticket so I'm not sure what the big deal is. If they spelled it out up front, would you then not bother trying to get the tickets? I think for most people the answer is no so I don't see what that would change in anyone's behavior. Their fees are well known and they don't make any effort to hide them. I'm not a huge fan of TodayTix, but I'm not going to ding them just for the sake of dinging them.
The Tempest I believe was a $12.50 fee. And it's misleading to call them $29, instead of $36. That's all. And you're clearly not a broke college kid on a budget to whom that does make a difference.

It's not misleading. Neither Telecharge or Ticketmaster include the fees when they list the initial price of a ticket for a show either. They are added in later before you buy the ticket. Are they misleading people too? To repeat, the fee is clearly indicated before you have to purchase the ticket and if you can't fit it into your budget, you have the option not to buy the ticket. You are fully aware of the total price before you make the purchase. Nothing misleading about it whatsoever.
And as far as I can tell you see plenty of shows. Truly broke college kids on a budget don't have the money to see Comet at least 7 times. You can see that and other shows as many times as you like for all I care but save the broke college kid on a budget routine for someone more gullible. It's one of the most tired routines on this board and is an insult to lower income college kids who are really broke and barely have enough money to keep themselves fed let alone see a favorite broadway show 7 times..
Most rush prices are without fees. So to someone familiar with rushing shows, they would assume it wasn't. All I was saying is it doesn't hurt to list the actual price of the ticket. You're the one who's taking it so far and getting so offended and worked up about a problem you clearly don't have.
and not that it's any of your business, but I have many connections in great comet that allowed me to see it for that many times and pay very little money. So nice try on the personal attacks there.

And most rushes require you to stand in line for 1-2 hours or more often in bad weather instead of clicking a few buttons at 10 a.m. while sitting on your couch. Some on-line lotteries check you out thru ticketmaster and they also charge a fee not mentioned up front. Do you whine about that too? There's a big difference between "doesn't hurt" and "misleading" but I wouldn't expect you to ever stop whining about a $7.50 fee long enough to understand that. Someday, I hope you can appreciate the difference between what it feels like to be really broke as opposed to having more than enough money to spend on shows but just feeling like you should never have to pay more than $30 to see one.

Also if you mean the Donmar Tempest at St. Ann’s the fee was $7.50 and I have the receipts for that and literally every ofher show from St. Ann’s previous season, which I all bought through Todaytix rush, to verify it.

I was there tonight and mostly enjoyed myself. I preferred this to Ghetto Klown and I liked the side we got to see of John, the parent. Like all one-person plays of this nature that I've ever seen, some parts are funnier than others and of course, all of them go on a little too long. Still, Latin History has a nice arc with a pay off.
The funniest bits are often the diversions from the history lesson (e.g. John's visits with his Tim Gunn sounding psychiatrist) so I understand the reticence to cut such things as they garner big laughs.
Leguizamo is an easy person to spend a few hours with and if we judge our politicians by who we'd like to share a beer with, he's an actor I'd like to share a beer with after the show.
The rear mezz of Studio 54 still has the worst leg room on Broadway. :/
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

I was there tonight also. It was an interesting show. More a play than his typical characters. In fact I wish he had done more characters than the 'lecturing" style of the show. While at time humorous, I never really laughed at any of the "one liners". Ok, maybe at the "Super Gay" one.
I was also surprised he wasn't more political with all the stuff going on nowadays. I don't believe that someone advocating for the Orange Cheeto would go and see his show anyway so a little politics would have been nice.
We sat in the front mezzanine side and had good viewing angles. There is no intermission and the show lasts about 90 minutes. While he does translate some of the Spanish he speaks there are other times that you won't get the whole joke if you don't know the language.
As Whizzer said, John is always enjoyable to spend an hour or two with but if you're going expecting tot see a non-stop laugh riot of a show, this isn't it. While the show is in previews, I also hope he gets a little more political.
sorry..10/19..... glad we got back on show topic and not fees. I sat right orchestra, front row. Audio kept cutting to low volume so missed some, sorry to say. Liked his book signing at show's end, but was disappointed posters weren't available.
Wizzer - the rear mezz of Studio 54 really is the worst. It's the high backs of the chairs! I almost had to stand up in the middle of the first act of SHE LOVES ME.
