Lame-ass excuse of a documentary. It was like watching a poorman's CW reality series trying to be a documentary. Rachelle Rak's whack-job hot mess saved this horribly boring film.
The moment they went back to discussing the creation of the original 1975 production, the film became what it should have been: fascinating. Watching those who were part of the original production: Donna McKechnie, Baayork Lee, Bob Avian, Nicholas Dante, etc. blurred everything else in the film that related to the casting of the 2006 Broadway revival.
For many obvious reasons (her family background, her never-happening Broadway stardom), they could have covered Charlotte d'Amboise segment a bit more.
One example of a recent all-too-perfect documentary on a Broadway show is and was: IN THE HEIGHTS: Chasing Dreams. This documentary is what finally got me to see the show, which I originally had NO interest in seeing, and becoming an ardent fan of it where I ended-up seeing the show about 6 times before it closed. IN THE HEIGHTS: Chasing Dreams did more for the show than any mass media advertisement could have EVER accomplished.

Posted: 9/11/11 at 11:23amI enjoyed what there was, but it left me wanting more. I would have loved more background on the casting process for more of the characters. I like Snelson, but to me she's much more a Cassie than a Val.

Maybe that's why she eventually went on to play Cassie and wasn't cast as Val in the first place!
