FACEBOOK: Lunch Mob for Cafe Edison
Shall the larger constituency that would be more inclined to carry a sign saying CLOSE THIS DUMP!!! show up at the same hour?
As I noted in another thread, the Edison does not deserve preservation, demeans worthwhile preservation efforts and leads the city toward fossilization rather than the vitality that is its signature.

Like that Guy Fieri place?
HogansHero--EAT MY BLINTZES!
For heaven's sake, no: close that abomination too.
We have lots of restaurants that provide great food in a great atmosphere where people who make theatre go. Neither Edison nor Fieri are among those places.
Love me some blitzes, PJ. Luckily there are a bunch of places that make great ones: something you can't objectively say about the place you are trying to save.
Yeah, Hogan, those stupid idiots who preserved that fossil Grand Central Terminal. The destruction of Penn Station looks so much better...
Penn Station and Grand Central were both worth preserving, Sally. The Edison is not. And when you try to save the unworthy, you end up losing battles that really matter. That's why I am so negative about this hoopla about the Edison (which will, of course, flop).

And that, of course, is in no way an opinion. That is FACT.
Jordan-where in the world did you get the idea I was stating a fact? Can you point me to the place in my posts that suggested that to you so I can straighten you out? It seems to me I have very forcefully stated my opinion on this subject, but that does not make it a fact. Are you not able to distinguish?

While I disagree with this statement, a petition or a mob won't do any good, they need a lot of money to keep it open, and I don't think people are willing to give a couple thousand each for the cause. Lovely place, though.

Can we get one of those huge inflated rats for outside the hotel? People staying there might want to be made aware of the fact that this establishment is being kicked out.
Well, hopefully the signers of the petition and the people involved in this mob will be eating at the Cafe Edison enough for the foreseeable future for the hotel's owners to be convinced it is worthwhile to be kept open.
Or a handful will sit and nurse a cup of coffee and bowl of soup for a couple of hours once in a while. Tomato, tomahto.
I'm not sure this place has enough cause, aside from nostalgia, to merit historical preservation.
How about as the traditional place where the Tony nominating committee meets to decide the nominees? At 1 PM the day before the nominations, the cafe closes and the windows blackened while the nominators make their picks.
I frequented this place probably a hundred times over the past 20 years and will miss it greatly. Aside from the fantastic homemade soups and reliable diner fare it was the people who served me that I always felt comfortable with. Besides being hardworking and honest they were always polite, earnest
and delivered great service. It is they who I'll miss. Ours is a great city but it will be diminished should Cafe Edison leave.

The Edison is worth preserving. Ask any long time Broadway veteran.
The Wall Street Journal mentions the lunch mob!

Just talked to Cafe Edison. They're tripling the orders of matzo balls and blintzes. Getting ready for the Lunch Mob!
