And people think Wicked is a one trick pony...
I am praying that they come back!
I'd be so glad if they came back. Of course, I wouldn't get to see them, but I've seen from clips and the movie that they really are the best in these roles (I saw Brad and Hunter, and they were pretty good).
What sucks is I just bought tickets so I could see Tony Danza because I figured there'd be no other reason to see this show again...
I agree that Matthew Broderick is not the best Leo. The best Leo I've seen is Martin Short, hands down. He was absolutely brilliant in the part.
But what Lane and Broderick have in the roles is a magic that just can't be duplicated. Whatever it is is hard to define, but the two of them just work so well together that it overcomes Broderick's weaknesses.
What might be an intriguing, though probably impossible, move would be to bring in Jason Alexander and Martin Short for a limited run and let New York see what those two did in LA, and then close the show with Lane and Broderick. Just a dream, though.
What I find odd is that a few days ago I was looking for tickets for the early part of the summer and I'm pretty sure tickets were on sale through June 24th. I just checked telecharge and now they're only on sale through March 11th (the end of Danza's stint).
I think it'd be great to see Matthew Broderick & Nathan Lane return to finish The Producers, as I never saw them in these roles live on stage (I did manage to catch them in The Odd Couple, though). Also, it'd be a great way to close the show with a bang!
Yes, and yesterday on the view Rosie said:
And See the Producers at the St. James theatre untill [insert date here]
Matthew Broderick doesn't sway me at all.
But if Nathan Lane comes back, I would faint, get up, jump around & jump over to ticketmaster. <3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't jump to Ticketmaster, cuz, well, the tickets won't be there.
The Producers is on Telecharge.
Well, you could jump to Ticketmaster...for another reason I guess...lol

In a way I hope they don't come back because I'm not in NY anymore.
Nathan Lane said in an interview that he was through with The Producers...maybe he will change his mind.
Wait, I'm confused. Has there been any official announcement on Broadway.com, Playbill, Theatermania, etc. that it's closing?

"and send the show off with a bang on June 24."
At least there's a date set...

Millie- We know that YF is opening on Halloween at the St. James which means The Producers is closing.
I think individually, Hunter is also better than Matthew as Leo.
I think Bart and Foster are both better Leo Blooms than Broderick. I mean, the Lane-Broderick chemistry is undeniable. They just work well together. But I'd rather see Roger Bart or Hunter Foster play Leo Bloom. I think Lane is the epitome of Bialystock.. he and John Treacy Egan are the best Bialystocks that have ever been.
I think they should bring back the original four if they're gonna do the Lane-Broderick comeback. Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Roger Bart and Gary Beach. Just to close out the show. That's ideal in my eyes. =)
I know a lot of you guys feel they should just let this show die, but I have to say this show is pretty much my all time favorite and it's going to be sad to see it go. (For me, anyway. lol) I'd like to see it go out with a bang. Even though it'll be considerably harder to get tickets then. =)

Saw it once with the dynamic duo & once with Stadlen because the actor who played the Nazi used to live on our floor
Would love to see Alexander & Short but would not rush especially sell my soul to the devil to see Lane/Broderick again. Been there/done that
i saw it in early previews { or performance }, not expecting it to be the hit that it was. They were both amazing and am dying to see them again.

"Yes-sah, I'm singing Broadway and it's heaven!
'Cause "Heaven" is a song from a Broadway show!
Ah, just give me a part that's got laughter and tears
and I'll beat it like Yul Brenner for the next thousand years!
Ah, Broadway, Broadway, Broadway! Brrrrrravo!"

- The two leads would be coming back to close the show. That is totally different from what you're insinuating. A lot of times the original stars come back to close a show. Asking Lane and Broderick back is not being a one trick pony. WICKED recycles and recycles these C list stars that no one (besides fan girls) cares about, over and over again. That's getting old. That's being a once trick pony.
