I dont think that Defying Gravity would be easier for ur choir either One Song Glory-- tho RENT songs I think are better to do with the choir then WICKED b.c. their easier....tho not many Long Island folks can sing it, Idina proved us wrong
NY VOICES ROCK!!! GO LONG ISLAND !!!
Screw "Whatever Happened to Class," whatever happened to grammar.
"Like it's just not okay to sing the songs from it in public anymore. You know? It's played out. It's embarrassing when my friends sing it on the subway. "
Come on now, you're not gonna look cool singing showtunes on the subway no matter what they're from.
Screw "Whatever Happened to Class," whatever happened to grammar.
Amen. The Grammarspelling Nazi inside me is raring to get out.
Jawhol!
Broadway Style, you have a point. And when people sing Wicked on the metro, i dont think their aim is to be cool. just a gut feeling. unless of course, they just burst out in Defying Gravity or No Good Deed and belt it perfectly, i for one would consider you cool.
Off-topic but 525600minutesWicked : what does being from NY and specifically Long Island have to do with having a good voice??
I belted out a nice rendition of Stars. But I changed the notes to flats and sharps, just for kicks - of course!
I would honestly pee myself if i saw a guy singing defying gravity. good luck with that one buddy. your in for hell.but hey god bless lol

Our choir is doing "For Good" from Wicked and it is fairly easy. But Defying Gravity.... STAY AWAY FROM IT
HEY! In Raul's defensive he jokingly suggested it at the Chatterbox and the audience went wild at the idea. Then again, he had to have known if he said it, we would have made him sing it!

CATS - am I really reading that you're giving someone a hard time for singing something from WICKED when I just read on another thread that you admit to liking DRACULA?
DGrant - DO NOT EVEN START WITH DRACULA!

Sad, I know. But I will be the first to stand up and say I like that show. I know it has its problems...but at least it has a better story than BROOKLYN.
Anyway, I like the music, blah blah blah, so throw flames at me...I don't care.

BSo - I wouldn't dream of it - there are more than enough people around here that take care of that type of thing.
It just intrigues me to be the fan of one very troubled show like Dracula (as CATS said he was) and yet have no issue giving someone else a hard time for liking something that, although it has its detractors, isn't doing too badly on a commercial level.

I can't explain Cats.
I liek Dracula and I like Wicked.
I like Sweeney Todd and I like Les Miserables.
it's funny how wicked fans seem to instantly pull out the "I like sweeney todd" card whenever they are in defense of their musical theatre tastes. it's really not necessary... I acknowledge the fact that wicked is popular amongst the kiddies, family audiences and the untalented twink musical theatre students. that's all fine and dandy. but no amount of success will ever detour from the fact that it is a poorly written show. I have the right to give anyone and everyone a hard time for enjoying it just as they have the right to give me a hard time for enjoying dracula. we're all on the same page. we all have the right to enjoy that show we know in our hearts needs work, but that overall it makes us so happy we don't mind its flaws. what makes me mad is that while a large majority of the wiz-o-maniacs know that the show is flawed and know that it could be better there is another set of fans who refuse to even consider the notion that wicked may not be the best show ever written. why is it okay to go along with their delusions? I don't humor people. It's not my nature.

CATS - that makes perfect sense. As I said, I was just intrigued. And now you've explained your position perfectly.
