According to Box Office mojo, RENT will take a drastic cut in screens on Wednesday to accomidate KING KONG and other holiday releases. Both major move theatre chains near me will no longer be showing it after Tuesday. You might want to check your local theatres if you want to see it again on the big screen -- this week may be your last chance.
Gahhh and I still haven't even seen it!
Guess I will have to wait for the DVD to come out.
Thanks for the warning, MB. I'll have to do some checking around if i want to get to this one a fourth time before the DVD release.

hopefully i can find somewhere playing it on Friday, i was hoping to take my friend who really wants to see it with me (the first time she saw it, she was with her uber-conservative parents and didn't like it, but then she asked me for the soundtrack and now she loves it :) )
Sigh.
thanks for the warning..I will have to see it for my fifth time before then...maybe more
aw! i kind of wanted to see it again before it left theatres.
it's playing at quite a few around here, though; maybe one will keep it another week or so.
UGH Stupid friggin King Kong...who needs an overblown popcorn flick with a cg ape when there is an amazing moving story like RENT?? it pisses me off =/
luckily I'm in NYC so it won't leave the city quite yet...
It's being cut, it's not being completely pulled. It's hardly the last chance.
Don't blame KING KONG or any other film. They aren't responsible for RENT only taking in 2 million dollars at the box office this weekend. The film simply didn't have legs or major cross over appeal.
And orangeskittles -- yes, you are right that the film isnt being pulled, but for people in cities outside of New York, the cut may be drastic enough to make seeing it after Tuesday difficult (I'm currently in Los Angeles and all the major chains in my area are booting it)and some smaller markets may lose the film altogether.

Luckily we have a second-run house here in Louisville, so I should be able to see it again at a reduced price.
I'm not in NYC and it's still playing at 2 theaters within a 5-mile radius of where I live.

So, what's the final domestic box office take going to be? About $30 million?
With marketing costs factored in, break even was around $80 million, right?

thank god I live next to an AMC 24! It played Phantom until late March! My theatre keeps movies around for a long, long while!
Wait a minute, when is the IMAX version being released? That is going to be AWESOME!

IMAX of King Kong would be SWEET!
I think that figure is about right, Margo.
And orange - the cut is happening on Wednesday. You can use moviefone or fandango to see if it will still be playing near you by week's end.

The major cineplexes around me (Twin Cities, MN area) are continuing to play it for a while yet. So, no problems here.

I wonder how much longer until they totally pull it then..
its being cut down from being in about 7 theatres in my area to one on Friday :[
I'm in Alabama........nuff said!!!
here in each movie theatre it only plays on ONE screen.
Whats worse it only plays 3 times out of the whole day.
SO SAD.
in my city it got pulled already from the theatre near my house and it starts playing at another theatre on wednesday, so I dunno. It will probably be in cheap theatres soon.
I think the movie will do well in its second run. Unfortunately even with the fan base, RENT fans didn't go as often as hoped for and of course the competition was fierce. I know lots of people that don't even go to movies till they hit the dollar theaters, or they even wait till they can rent it. But yeah, huge screen, good sound system theaters are gonna let it go soon so get on it.

I saw Rent at our local dollar theatre the other night (which, ironicly, cost me $2). The sound quality SUCKED @$$ - you couldn't even hear the reverb of the mic and I'm not sure I heard the bass line at all. That said, I'm hoping it's still at the $ theatre next weekend, so after finals, all of us Rentheads at our school can go and have a Rocky Horror-type showing.

That's too bad. It didn't even run for a month yet.
are people in nyc seeing dec. 16th on moviefone and fandango? I know it will still be in theaters but they don't have it listed yet.
