She's starting to annoy me now. She clearly loves herself a bit too much, her impression really isn't very funny, and she was a let down in She Loves Me.

Not a matter of disrespect. Kad is right, you are wrong. Benanti's performance in SHE LOVES ME is one for the ages, and not really sure how playfully hinting at her appearance on Colbert (which I have now set up to record) constitutes as her "loving herself" too much. That's just silly.

Oh get a grip. It's my opinion and you can't say I'm wrong. Neither would I say that to you.
My opinion that she's up herself is after observing her twitter feed over time.
My opinion on her impersonation not being funny is- after WATCHING IT.
My opinion on her performance in She loves me being a let down is seeing her in it, being underwhelmed , then seeing her understudy Laura Shoop in it who was AMAZING.
Now be a bit grown up and just accept someone has a different opinion and doesn't worship her like you do
You may now return to hanging around outside her apartment with a laminated playbill for her to sign.

brain1973 is not wrong, he is expressing his opinion which differs from yours. He may be in the minority, but an opinion, by definition, cannot be wrong. It's subjective.

Could we PLEASE stop this nonsense! (What I'm about to post has nothing to do with Ms. Benanti. I don't know her and have no opinion as to whether she thinks too highly of herself. Most actors learn they have to do a certain amount of self-promotion.)
This is from Merriam-Webster:

One's "belief, judgment or way of thinking" may be objective or subjective and it may be right or wrong. It is my opinion that there is life on other planets; it seems obvious to me, given the vast number of planets in the universe. My opinion is not subjective (it is based on my understanding of how life begins and the number of habitable planets), but it is right or wrong. We simply have insufficient evidence to say at this time.
Aesthetic opinions (such as whether Benanti was a good Amalia) do involve issues of taste, which may be subjective to some extent. But there are also objective criteria: ability to sing the score and land the jokes, accuracy in portraying the character's intentions, etc. and so forth.
Reasonable people may disagree (there's still that element of taste), but the insistence that all opinions are subjective and therefore immune to criticism is just an attempt to stop the conversation.

@GavestonPS With that logic, brian is even more entitled to his opinion because he said her performance was a let down and that it underwhelmed. He didn't say anything about whether she sang well or badly. He said that he, personally, was disappointed.

I have no intentions to say things merely to 'stir the pot'.. I Have better things to do than have to defend my opinion to strangers on a message board .
And for the record I have adored her in previous roles. She was sensational in Gypsy and Women/Verge. For my money she wasn't a patch on Ruthie Henshall in She Loves Me in the 90's. Just listening to the cast recording will help convey that.

brian1973, I've been annoyed by Benanti's social media persona for quite some time now, too. It's tough, because I've adored her in almost everything I've seen her do (I didn't love her in Parade, but JRB should stop asking for sopranos to play Lucille), and I don't know if I've ever had two such divergent opinions about someone as a performer and as a person.
Of course, it doesn't help that the persona she's cultivated hits on things I really can't stand, like women who say they're not like other girls, adults who don't know how to cook, and thin attractive people complaining about exercise.

Laura Benanti can't compete with the strangeness of the actual interview. Melania Trump insists she's not a victim while everything about her statements screams it. I couldn't even laugh at Randy Rainbow's recap of it. The whole thing just feels sad.

I do not fault the actors who were manipulated by Patti Murin's self-aggrandizing publicity stunt. They were dupes and several of them have said, privately, that in retrospect, they regret jumping on her bandwagon.
The whole affair has left her with an extremely poor reputation among many of her colleagues.
As for Laura Benanti, she is the kind of adored and admired A-list performer that Patti Murin will never be.

In addition to what PalJoey said - to be fair, look at this thread alone. What should have been a celebration of another primarily theater artist switching over to network television to get a ton more recognition (for doing something she's genuinely good at - comedy), half the people here are mentioning how annoyed they are about Laura's online persona.
She's self-promoting? Go to ANY actor's twitter account. They are supposed to advertise themselves. If her appearance on the show in any way or form increases viewership, she'd want CBS to know that - to get herself on more often and in different ways.
I found her breathtaking in She Loves Me. I saw both Shoop and her, and while Shoop was fantastic - I thought Benanti took the cake for me. I personally find her hilarious and a very positive person who's real about what she goes through and shares her opinions.
