Good for her. Is the show any good? I LOVED Connie Britton on Friday Night Lights, but Nashville looks so 1990s evening soap opera to me.
OMG, NASHVILLE is SO damn good. SO. DAMN. GOOD.

I guess this means she won't be playing Mrs. Darling and Grown-Up Wendy in 'Peter Pan Live'. I think she's perfect for those roles.
Like Dawson's Creek good or like The Wire good?
She still may be, she is only going to be on Nashville for "several episodes". Nashville is very soapy, but it's very entertaining. I love that Will Chase is now a series regular.

Love Benanti, heard good things about Nashville, but doesn't this mean the show's getting cancelled? Her track record is terrible.
Kidding!!! Really hope she gets the exposure she deserves.
HorseTears, nothing will ever be as good, or ever will touch, the brilliance that is The Wire. This is just your typical soapy prime time drama.
Happy for her but it sucks that I stopped watching in the middle of last season. Even Will Chase couldn't save it for me.
I really hate this show, it's so boring and overblown, and it's not even good soapy drama. The hype it gets baffles me.
But good for her getting a role on a pretty popular show! If anyone was going to get me to watch it she would be the person. And I totally forgot Will Chase was on it.
I could watch Connie Britton read the phonebook. I'd kill to see her on Broadway
I really love this show, it's so awesome and fun, and it's even good soapy drama. The hype it gets delights me.
And good for her getting a role on a pretty popular show! If anyone was going to get me to watch it over and over and over again, she would be the person. And I totally did not forget Will Chase was on it.

I guess this means we're back for Season 3!! How exciting. Definitely another reason to watch the show. Loved Season and 2 and I'm glad we'll be getting another season soon.
Why must every show be compared to THE WIRE? Yes, NASHVILLE is an old-fashioned, primetime soap opera, but it does what it does very well. We've never missed an episode in my house.
Good for Laura Benanti! I hope she has a role that sings.
Tried watching the first season and really didn't like it, but not enough to not watch genius Benanti rock it. I'm still not over the fact GO ON was cancelled, one of the funniest new sitcoms in a long time and of course it was cancelled right away.
Not every show IS compared to The Wire, why would anyone even say that? Also, if you had actually read the article, you would already know she's playing an up and coming country artist who sings.
Yeah, Go On was fantastic.
I like Benanti. A lot. She does no wrong in my book. I watched the first season of Nashville, but couldn't get going on the second. Might be time to give it another shot before Laura show up.
Love the show. It's soapy but it's great. And there's a gay cowboy who isn't bad to look at either.
Yes, Chris Carmack is a tasty piece.
I'm mostly watching for the music at this point, because they do have some really great songs, but the show itself is soapy in the extreme.
"Not every show IS compared to The Wire, why would anyone even say that? Also, if you had actually read the article, you would already know she's playing an up and coming country artist who sings."
Actually, THE WIRE has become a common point of comparison and was previously used in this very thread.
My copy of the link says Benanti will play an up-and-coming country star, so, yes, she will probably sing. But if you've ever seen the show, you would know playing a country singer doesn't necessarily mean a singing part. A LOT of the characters on the show are singers. Some of them didn't get around to singing until Season 2.

You said "compared to every show" which means every show that exists. That is fundamentally untrue. She is playing a charactor that will sing, since she is playing an artist. I've watched every episode and the artists all sing.

Gavy - cool your jets, man. I was being slightly facetious when I asked if Nashville was Dawson's Creek good or The Wire good - precisely because of how often ambitious tv dramas are compared to the latter show. I'm well aware that it's a primetime soap.
