What is the story behind LMK NOT coming to Broadway with Mary Poppins? Seems like bringing her would have been a no-brainer. Must be a story there...

Good question, especially since she won an Oliver for her performance. She must have had a really good reason (especially since she took over the role in the Broadway production in 2009). Maybe Disney just preferred Ashley Brown's version instead?

There was a scheduling conflict with another show she was doing. I just don't remember what it was.
She ended up coming to Broadway eventually. I enjoyed both she and Ashley Brown immensely.

I thought that there was an issue between her and Cemeron that temporally barred her from coming to Broadway as a result, but was eventually resolved thus ending with her doing the show on Broadway.

I find it funny how Laura both was nominated and won an Olivier for playing the tom of mary and Ashley brown wasn't even recognized by the Tonys.

What's so "funny" about that? Two different casts, two different actresses being considered by different nominators and in comparison with different shows. Just because one actress gets nominated, I don't see why the expectation of it always being nominated exists. (In this case, with revivals, etc)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

"thats true but you would expect an acclaimed show to get acclaim in a one city to get acclaim in another. Does not always happen .But its a relativity good way to hedge your bets

I think Ashley Brown not getting nominated probably had a lot to do with the fact that in the stage version, Mary is much colder than she is in the movie. The stage version is closer to the book, and I think that shocked American critics and audiences.

It was also a remarkably competitive year in that category (leading actress in a musical). While there was little doubt Christine Ebersole would win, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Debra Monk, and Laura Bell Bundy were all nominated. The only one Ashley Brown maybe had a chance to slide in ahead of was Debra Monk, whose role was small-ish, and probably belonged in featured actress.
Lea Michele also wasn't nominated that year, and she was in a juggernaut show.

But was Laura Bell Bundy's Portrayal of Ellie Woods so great ? that it deserved a nomination over Ashley Brown and Lea Michele ? both of which were in musicals that were tony nominated and far better reviewed shows?

Laura Bell Bundy had the benefit of playing a marathon role where she essentially never left the stage. She got very good reviews, and I would say there was little doubt she'd be among the nominees. Michele really didn't deserve a nomination, I was simply pointing out that not even she could slip in to this category, when she was in a show that won most of the night's big awards.

Kristin Chenoweth was also eligible that year for The Apple Tree. It was a bit of a surprise that she wasn't nominated, but she probably came closer than Brown or Michele.
