Aaron Tveit tells TV Insider.com that the right timing led him to making ''One Royal Holiday'' with Laura Osnes. While waiting for Broadway to reopen after the COVID-19 shutdown, Tveit says he got the script for the movie out of the blue in June. In July, the cast and crew of ''One Royal Holiday'' formed their own bubble and stayed at two Woodstock, Conn., inns where they filmed.
Laura Osnes and Victoria Clark get together to promote their ''One Royal Holiday'' and recall how they bonded on Broadway in ''Cinderella.'' Victoria also remembers when Barbra Streisand came to ''The Light in the Piazza.'' And Laura and Victoria share their hopes for Broadway's return (in song).
So did anyone watch? I thought the production values looked somewhat cheaper than usual and some of the scene work looked a little claustrophobic. I am wondering if Covid had something to do with it. The actors worked well with one another even though the script was a little flat. Laura giggled a bit too much and could have made other choices. I imagine everyone is encouraged to be cheery unless the character is a grinch, stiff (Aaron’s character) or somewhat broken. Victoria connected all the dots and Aaron looked handsome in blue.
The challenge of Hallmark movies is the evolution of character relationships which can happen quickly and unnaturally. Then a conflict happens in the third act usually in the last 7 minutes. The conflict is usually based on mixed signals which creates a misunderstanding. The conflict could have been resolved easily with an expression of feelings or a direct question or two but usually the couple parts ways only to reunite in the last few minutes.
I watched it. Haven't watched a Hallmark movie in a long time but made an exception since Aaron and Laura are two of my favorite performers. I didn't expect much, but was actually pleasantly surprised. I liked the way the story flowed even though the plot is kind of cliche (which is to be expected since it's Hallmark), I think the actors working well together helped with that. I thought the acting was great, but agree that Laura seemed more cheerful than usual (to be fair though, I most recently saw her in Bandstand so that was a complete different character). Overall, it was lighthearted and enjoyable, and I'm glad I caught it.
Loved loved loved it. I’m also a Hallmark Christmas movie junkie and thought that this one was done really well. I’m sure I’ll watch it a few more times before Christmas (since they’re on 24/7 for the next two months).
Laura and Aaron make a cute couple in ''One Royal Holiday'' and have wonderful chemistry. This is Laura's 3rd Hallmark movie. I hope they'll reunite her and Aaron in a sequel, preferably a musical one. (Given that ''One Royal Holiday'' was shot in 85-degree weather in Connecticut in July, I wonder how much fake snow they had to use to create those wintry outdoor scenes!)
Meantime, Laura and Aaron aren't the only Broadway stars in a Hallmark holiday movie. Jeremy Jordan, Laura's co-star in ''Bonnie & Clyde,'' is scheduled to premiere tonight (Sun., Nov. 1) at 10 p.m., EST, with ''Holly & Ivy.'' Jeremy's co-star is Janel Parrish, best known for TV's ''Pretty Little Liars,'' but she played Young Cosette in ''Les Miserables'' on Broadway.
For fans of Laura Osnes, on Friday at 7:00 pm she will be live streaming one of her cabaret acts from Birdland. I think tickets are $20. This will be the act where she talks about roles she didn't get and sings the songs from those roles that she never sang on stage.
I'm a little curious about what roles she auditioned for and didn't get in the two and a half year period between the closing of Bandstand in September, 2017 and the arrival of the pandemic last March.
I caught the "One Royal Holiday" rebroadcast Sunday afternoon and thought the movie was very sweet and quite good for a Hallmark movie. Aaron and Laura had great chemistry and I loved Victoria Clark as the Queen. I also think there will be plenty of cream cable sweaters purchased as holiday gifts for boyfriends / husbands. I saw some chatter about a sequel...not sure if that's a legit idea, but there is a story there. Might as well take advantage of these guys being available and get it filmed in early 2021 for a June "Royal Wedding" broadcast.
Often times the actors will shoot movies back to back, usually with a different co star. Some of the same supporting actors will show up in both movies. Michael Rady is starring in one this coming weekend. He is the handsome guy from The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants.
I was hoping to watch this but I use YouTube TV as my “cable” provider and realized Hallmark is one of the channels that isn’t available with the service. Bummer...but oh well!!
I had enjoyed ''One Royal Holiday'' on the Hallmark Channel, so I was looking forward to catching ''Holly & Ivy,'' too. However, ''Holly & Ivy'' apparently isn't available on the Hallmark Channel; it's only on Hallmark's sister network, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries (which my cable provider doesn't provide).
Good golly, I miss 'Holly.'' Meantime, here's a Hallmark interview with Jeremy.

As the season progresses the Holly & Ivy movie could very well have a showing or two on the regular Hallmark channel. Just pay attention to scheduling. There is also a Hallmark ap you can download that may coincide with your cable provider.
''As the season progresses the Holly & Ivy movie could very well have a showing or two on the regular Hallmark channel. Just pay attention to scheduling.''
It's possible. But I've already scrolled through the next 3 weeks of programming on the Hallmark Channel, and see no sign of ''Holly & Ivy'' so far.
Scrolling through those dozens of Christmas films, it's also hard not to notice how snow-blindingly-white the casting is in Hallmark movies. I might've come across one movie that had an African-American lead couple (''Christmas Duet'' ) and another with a Latino couple (''Enchanted Christmas'' ). I've also read that an upcoming Hallmark movie will include a ''prominent LGBTQ storyline.''
Given how prolific this channel is, especially during the holidays, I'd love to see diversity become more of a hallmark of Hallmark movies.

I still think you might download the Hallmark Christmas movie ap. It is another alternative to watching the featured movies. You might look at your cable on demand features.
Hallmark has been very slow to diversity. Lifetime has moved a little quicker.
A Christmas Bow premiering this Sunday has a Korean female lead.
I just looked it up, but Lucia Micarelli, a Queens-born actress of Korean and Italian heritage, stars in ''The Christmas Bow.'' As a violinist, she's toured with Josh Groban and Chris Botti, so she should feel right at home playing a violinist in this Hallmark Movies & Mysteries film. It also looks like James Saito, a Broadway veteran and Obie Award winner, plays her father.
Over at Lifetime, ''A Sugar & Space Holiday'' promises to be its first holiday movie centering on a Chinese-American family. It'll feature an Asian director, writer, casting director and cast, starring Jacky Lai and Tony Giroux.
Meantime, both Hallmark and Lifetime are about to unveil holiday movies with LGBTQ leads: Hallmark's ''The Christmas House'' (Nov. 22 ) will star Jonathan Bennett, an openly gay actor who's done a couple of other Hallmark movies. Bennett says: "I asked my agent what girl was gonna play my love interest – who was it gonna be. They responded, 'Jake' (laughs), and my jaw hit the floor." And Lifetime's ''The Christmas Setup'' (Dec. 12 ) will star Blake Lee and Ben Lewis, who are married in real life. Its director and writer are gay, too.
Yes, Ali Stroker will play a romance novelist in Lifetime's ''Christmas Ever After.'' She'll be joined by Mario Lopez, Daniel Di Tomasso and Betty White.
Good lord, those were difficult to watch. What drivel. I'll admit, these are the only times I ever watch channels like Hallmark or Lifetime - or when a former student lands a role. I suppose they are the pg -versions of romance novels.
So not for me.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
It’s a living especially in these times but Osnes, who has played Nellie Forbush and Julie Jordan with distinction, seem so thrilled about being cast in these pieces of fluff.
I wonder what the lead in a Hallmark film pays compared to the lead in a Broadway musical.
