For the movie they've decided to stick closer to the book, and are will be including some of the characters that were cut for the stage production. Kristen will be playing Ama Clutch, Glinda's chaperone from the novel. Lea will be playing Grommetik, Madam Morrible's tiktok servant.

I have it on good authority that Harvey Fierstein and Rosie O'Donnell are starring as Galinda and Elphaba, respectively. They've dreamed of playing these roles for years and will do so through the magic of Robert Zumeckis motion-capture technology.
You should hear Harvey's "Popular." It's not as pretty as Chenoweth's, but he acts the crap out of it and that's enough to make up for the two octave drop in register. It's only two octaves because Harvey insisted on singing it in his head voice and not belting.
