Volume control, I'm assuming.
They do that for the set too. Drum set...

Wow. That clip was really cool.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Quick question (*SPOILER* possibly):
In the musical, does Elle and Brooke still have that moment where they're in the prison talking on the phone looking through the glass, and Elle's trying to get her alibis (sp?) And she whispers "it" into the phone and Elle reacts by gasping. haha, does that occur in the musical?

RE: Quick question, the alibi discussion happens face to face in the prison yard, it isn't whispered and I don't remember Elle gasping, but she is definitely surprised.

Some of you guys are pathetic. What do you all do for a living that you can post these all-day rants? As if anyone gives a f**k what you think. It's the first preview. They just started rehearsing with the orchestra a few days ago, and with the set a little more than a week before that. That's why they have previews, to figure out and save what works, and to find out what doesn't so they can fix things. I don't have to tell you guys this stuff, being obsessive b-way freaks, this is chapter one of the handbook. It sounds like you guys WANT shows to be bad, so you can sit around and talk sh*t.
I saw the last invited rehearsal in NYC. No sets, no costumes, no orchestra. The show was good. Granted, there were some pacing issues normal for a show in it's stage, but nothing that couldn't be fixed, and probably has been since the first preview...the cast is still in rehearsals every day before the evening's performance.
Someone said something about Leslie Kritzer looking "old". She may have mature energy, but what I will say is that she is an absolutely BRILLIANT musical-comedy actress, maybe the best of her generation. Her one-woman Patti LuPone show at Joe's Pub is already legendary among theatre professionals. I'd take a 50 year old Kritzer playing a 21 year old, just to get the chance to watch her on stage.
To those caught up in speculation, the show will be here soon, see it for yourself. I can't get a few tunes out of my head from a few weeks ago, and look forward to hearing them again. They are catchy and fun. You will leave feeling uplifted, and that, to me, is worth $100 any day (when I think of some of the crap I spend $100 on...)

Thanks for posting the Playbill scans, Brian. I was just curious as to what Gaelen was doing in the show besides ensemble.

Are_you_kidding?...I agree with you 100%. I thought at first you were gonna bash Legally Blonde (thank god you didn't, haha!) But I agree, it's only in out-of-town PREVIEWS. I'm sure parts of songs will be re-written, taken out, the script might need changed a little and so will staging, but it's just starting out the process on an actual stage so it can be perfect by April.
One question though, Are_you_kidding, did you join JUST to post that...haha

I agree are you kidding
The show is still in very early stages and as they say you dont write a musical you re write a musical,so let it get through its try out, make the changes it needs to before hopefully turning broadway pink.
Good luck legally Blonde(fingers crossed)

I don't think the posts on this thread have been overwhelmingly negative or premature. Everyone’s fairly assessing it based on the fact that it’s a first preview.

Gaelen plays Elle's mother and a character named Whitney. I remember Elle's mother appearing in maybe 2 scenes, one of which is the golf course towards the beginning. The father and mother roles are small and have few lines. I don't remember what character Whitney was.

sweeneytodd2 I agree, I'm glad we have been able to keep a civil thread going here. It may not last long but it sure is a lot more stimulating then a flame war. It will be exciting as more and more people see the show in previews and we start to hear some more varied opinions. I have done some blog surfing looking for "normal" people who have seen the show in the first two days here in SF and the reactions have been much more positive then negative.

legallyblonde- Can you tell us what the sets were like?

I don't see what's wrong about talking about a show's problems based on one preview. If they're making the audience pay, then what's the big deal? And also, why shouldn't we discuss the shows problems? That's what previews are for! And I like how people always say "The show was good...granted there were lots of problems like..." I don't get that notion at all. I'm not saying this show is good or bad, I haven't seen it, but if people have to pay a good amount of money, then they have the right to say what they want.
And if the show is good then the critics will like it. The Wedding Singer and Hi-F weren't that great and didn't deserve to be on B'way. Broadway is the epicenter of musical theater. It should be the best. [Granted, the Producers is STILL running...]

A friend of mine saw the show last night (he's not one of us--no BWW account--DAMN HIM!) and said Orfeh's giving the best performance of her Broadway career so far and that people are with her from the first moment. And he also said the crowd is going nuts for Andy Karl in his UPS outfit with his "package" (HAAAAAAA!). I can't wait to see them for myself.

RentBoy86 - As you contradict yourself, maybe you should just edit your post and accept it: Broadway is what sells.

I'm sorry, but I don't see your point? I know Broadway is what sells, but normally, crap doesn't sell.

Are_you_kidding, I somehow doubt someone in a place to be invited to a rehearsal has the most unbiased opinion and should be lecturing others about theirs. Same with those using Legally Blonde avatars despite not actually seeing the show for themeselves...
Very few people here want shows to be bad (the rest being the flop queens) since we are the ones that will have to sit through many more of them than the tourists these "bad" shows are apparently targetted towards.

regardless of what happens: there will always be people who are excited for the show before the costumes are even sketched and the rehearsals even start, there will always be people who do like it, as there will always be people who don't.
The only true test is whenever it actually GETS to broadway and douses it peroxide, we will see if broadway keeps the blonde, or goes to the hair salon.
regardless, i am excited, i was excited from word of mouth, i got more excited with three little songs, and i am more excited from three pictures and a few video clips.
I will be supporting the blonde.

Leslie Kritzer is very talented. But she looks completely out of place with the sorority girls, mostly (from what I can tell) as a result of poor costume and make-up choices.
