I think the majority of people here would think most musicals look like amateur drivel next to SWEENEY, some of Sondheim's work included.

"Sorry, I did not get your point. I did not see how I prove your correctness.
I use the music as an example,to explain my idea about theatre work. It is the theme makes the difference. I am not comparing the music of Sondheim and Schhonberg."
Sandra, I'm not sure what your refering to. I never said anything about my correctness. I was defending my opinion that brighter doens't equal better and darker doesn't equal bad. That was a point you said.
Actually, I do own a bunch of Sondheim shows.
I have never seen Sweeney live, only the DVd with George - which I do own and which I always watch/listen to. No, I don't own the full CD of Sweeney yet, but I do have songs on my computer.
I have heard Assassins (and own it). I have heard The Frogs (and don't own it). I think that neither of them compare to his past shows such as, say, Sunday.
Then, you've even admitted to me in the past that you know NOTHING about Sondheim's shows - especially Sunday...
I never saw Sunday, but I knwo the music...same with Into the Woods (actually we have the DVDs - I've just never watched him).
I think he write great music...but it's not my type.
I like more showy, fast moving.
I don't know what you are trying to prove, exactly....
I think the reason I like Sweeney is that it is dark. I either like the dark shows or the happy, funny, fast moving shows.
Les Miz is good entertainment.
Sweeney is good art.
I vote Sweeney.
