This says "Wolverine" filming may be pushed and Hugh may do "Les Miserables" first. It also says:
>> Hooper’s follow-up to “The King’s Speech” has been casting up over the summer with Jackman as Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe in the role of Inspector Javert. Last we heard, shooting was going to begin in February 2012 but this news suggests the shooting date may be moving up (perhaps to get in for Oscar season next year). And according to industry tracking site It’s On The Grid, more talent is being rounded up with names like Hayden Panettiere, Miranda Cosgrove, Lucy Hale and Emma Watson being tossed around for Eponine and Cosette with Amy Adams and Rebecca Hall being eyed for Fantine. Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter are in negotiations to reteam with Hooper to play the Thenardiers.

Casting has never been more perfect in the recent history of movie musicals since CHICAGO.

"Lucy Hale has a lovely voice"
Agreed! I would LOVE Lucy Hale <3

I agree with the comment about Helena's singing.
I'm listening to Miranda Cosgrove and she does not sound good without auto-tune. Can't find any clips of Emma Watson or Rebecca Hall singing.
Hayden isn't... terrible, I guess.

Posted: 8/24/11 at 11:48pmI hate to be "that guy" but I'm shocked Lea Michelle's name was not brought up for Eponine. Not that I want her to get it but just saying (to be honest, I think they could do worse if they did hire her.)

Posted: 8/24/11 at 11:50pmI love the fact that filming may be moved up, even thought February isn't that far away anyways. I think Rush and Carter are also perfect choices, and I hope they happen. Of the four girls being eyed for Eponine and Cossete, I feel Lucy Hale is the only one who's voice would really fit the score. And Amy Adams is a choice I had wanted before for Fantine, so hopefully that will actually happen.

Oooooh, I like the Rebecca Hall and Emma Watson suggestions.
I'm going to be majorly bummed if Paul Bettney isn't Javert though.

That looks like a heavy-hitter cast, if it happens.
Jackman/Crowe/Rush/Bonham Carter/Adams or Hall -- and the juvenile female casting candidates seem promising. I wonder who they are lining up for the juvenile male roles?
I wonder if Universal has open the money taps for this kind of casting?

After her singing in Sweeney Todd, I don't care to hear Helena Bonham Carter sing Thenardier in head voice.
Madame Thenardier sings, what, a total of 30 bars? A few lines in Master of the House, The Bargain, the Paris street scene, and Beggars at the Feast. It's not a large singing role.
Other than the possibility of Hayden Panatierre being in this, the rest of the rumored casting sounds really interesting.
As for the other roles, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they got Daniel Radcliffe to play Marius.

I'm still hoping they might pick Darren Criss to play Marius, but they'd probably go for Daniel Radcliffe.
No mention of an Enjolras either, would love to see Ramin Karimloo reprise that role.

adamgreer, it's not HOW MUCH someone sings, it's *HOW* they sing it! :P
But again, the character's singing isn't even difficult, and it's a role you can easily "get through" if you're not a singer. Many of the women who've played the role on Broadway were not singers. It's much more about personality- as long as she's bawdy and gets the laughs, it's all good.

Posted: 8/25/11 at 7:55amI *really* doubt that Crowe is going to play Javert. He's got a bunch of films lined up already, none of which are LM, and I haven't seen a thing about him getting the part anywhere else. I think if he'd been definitely cast it'd be pretty big Hollywood news.

Posted: 8/25/11 at 9:23amWe really don't know anything at this point other than Hugh, all the rest is just rumors until we get studio confirmation. It shouldn't be too long since we get some kind of news since Hugh will be doing promotion for "Real Steel" in September and I'm sure he'll be asked and he can be a blabbermouth LOL.

Helena Bonham Carter in period clothing?
Novel.

Posted: 8/25/11 at 9:59amYeah, they'd better get moving if they want to start filming soon. They can't shoot a frame of footage until they record the soundtrack to lip-synch to, and that's going to take a few months.

Posted: 8/25/11 at 10:01amAgreed that Bonham Carter's voice doesn't really matter--Mme. Thenardier isn't Norma. Loving the idea of either Hall or Adams as Fantine, although Hall would probably go grittier than Adams, which is what I want.

Her singing doesn't have to be good, but it does have to be loud and boisterous. Helena's voice is super quiet and soft. She took a lot of the humor out of Mrs. Lovett's songs for me, so I'd be worried about the same thing happening with Mme. Thenardier.
Though, I mean, she isn't the role I am most concerned about. I'd rather they cast a bad singer as Mme. Thenardier than, say, Enjolras.

Posted: 8/25/11 at 10:40amHow about Karimloo as Marius? Would that work? I know Enjolras is a big role, but I could see him as Marius, too.

I like all the casting rumors, except I really wish that Crowe and Jackman were switched.
See, I think they got it right. Russell Crowe always looks like he's got a perpetual rain cloud floating over his head. He's one of the gloomiest actors I've ever seen.
Rush is so perfect for Thenardier, but please, not Helena. I don't want to hear her dulcet whisper-twitter in this role. My first choice would be Dawn French and second would be Jennifer Saunders. Either one would make the most of it and be far more appropriate than the mousey Helena, especially paired with Rush. Maybe it's just me, but I think Kate Winslet would be a heartbreaking Fantine.
