Marsden looks young, but he's 38 this month.
BTW - there's a video on YouTube of Hugh interviewed briefly at the Paris "Real Steel" premiere and the interviewer asked him about this movie, and he said he was filming it next, so the rumors are true that Wolverine was pushed and this is his next film, probably after his Broadway show in the new year.

Agree that Marsden's too old for Marius, but he'd make a great Enjolras! If they don't cast my choice, Ramin Karimloo, I sure wouldn't mind if they cast James.
Odd that we haven't heard any murmurings of Marius or Enjolras possibilitie, it's all been Javert, Fantine, Eponine and Cosette...

Cool! If that's the case though, they better hurry up and cast the rest of the flick! So far he's the only actor signed!
Still amazed that they made a movie out of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots...

Fan2 -- Looking forward to the Broadway one-man show! He sang FEVER on French TV to the delight of the crowd - that was the number he used on his one-man shows in San Francisco and Toronto to rouse the crowd.
Sueb1863 --
Lol! Real Steel is not the rock-em-sock-em incarnation in a movie. I have read a first draft of the movie script and while the robots do provide some spectacular scenes, the movie is really about a loser, whose redemption in his career ( he used to be a boxer) and a reconnection with an estranged son are the arc and core of the story. It focuses on the father-son relationship and how they find the filial connection in the futuristic world where robots, not humans, are allowed to enter the boxing ring. Hugh calls it more like a Rocky or a Paper Moon movie. Early fan reactions are very good!
From boxer to showman to reformed convict ( who sings) to mutant who snikts and snakts -- Hugh Jackman's genes are getting confused! LOL!

:) Thanks for the info! I knew it wasn't a straight adaptation of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, but when I see robots in a boxing ring that's what I think of!
Glad to hear the reviews have been good. It's been a while since Hugh's had a hit movie!

I think Enjolras needs to be more intense, serious, and brooding. And a bigger "presence" physically.
Michael Maguire (jerk that he was in real life) was great in the OBC.

Michael Maguire was even more impressive during the original run on Broadway. I saw the show for the first time after Colm and Frances had left the show, and Michael was the standout! I did not even know that he came from a business background ( Didn't he used to work on Wall Street?).
I agree that the casting of Enjolras is very important. He needs to have an Apollo-esque and very charismatic personality, to entice the rebel group of students ( and eventually the common people) to his cause. To me, the essence of Les Miserables are embodied in the two songs DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING and ONE DAY MORE, which Enjolras leads. An impressive personality, excellent acting chops, and a fairly good singing ability will fit the bill!

I don't think they need a big name for that role anyway. It's a supporting character (although a good one). A "reputable" actor or singer should do just fine.
EDIT: I should add that I think Benjamin Walker would be an excellent choice.

Ugh, I see this as really unnecessary..
Might be shot in 3D

Is this the old tinted eyeglasses 3D that went out of style in the 70's and distorted half the picture as a necessary compromise for an effect that wasn't worth it and also washed out color and brightness?
If that's the 3D we're talking here, then a resounding NOOOOOOOOOOOOO from me.

Here's an interesting take on possible 3D:
>>The decision isn't entirely silly simply because there are several battle scenes that could really pop when shot in 3D. However, for me, the clearest motivation for shooting a musical in 3D would be to evoke the feeling of watching it unfold on stage, just like it was originally intended. This would be Tom Hooper's first 3D film, and while it certainly seems strange to apply the technology to a story taking place in the 19th century, it's not the most ludicrous idea.<<
Possible 3D?

1. You can always choose to go to a regular 2D show instead. No harm, no foul.
2. Am doubting this will happen anyway. Movies marketed predominately as "3D!!!" are bombing right and left, and the % of 3D/2D grosses for those in both is swinging back toward 2D. People are realizing it looks crappy 2/3 of the time and don't wanna spend the extra $3-5.

If they think they can make a buck on it, they'll do it. Although, I'm not sure what audience is clamoring for a 3D musical. I can just see the ad campaign now ...

If you're quick enough. After the first couple of weeks, when I finally had time to catch the last Harry Potter film, the theatres around me dropped the 2D option and only offered 3D. I decided to wait for the Blu Ray. Unless it is some sort of monument to innovation, like Avatar, I have no interest in 3D movies or television.

Posted: 10/11/11 at 9:10pmWell Jackie Evancho is no longer an untried actor (well, shortly, anyway). Robert Redford has cast her in his new movie (producing, directing, starring) "The Company You Keep". She plays his daughter. It is filming right now in Vancouver. The cast for Redford's movie is starting to make Tom's bumper cast look a little short. Tom Hooper should nab Jackie for Young Cosette (2 songs). (I hear she can sing decently. loL!)
