re: Les Miserables- first preview review

How about Brescia takes over Fantine?

hehe

Kidding... sort of.

I'm sure this is readily available, but since I'm checking this thread regularly and have read all 6 pages, whats the Rush/Lotto/SR situation turning out to be? I hated it when I saw it originally (I believe in its second to- or final year) but have grown in liking a'la YouTube, so I'm interested in seeing this production.

That theatre was also the nastiest about not bringing anything into the theatre when we were there for "Lennon". Not very nice...

I do think the smaller theatre size (as opposed to the Imperial) is good for this play.

Hmm. If Ruthie Henshall took over for Fantine I would be up there so fast...she is AMAZING in that role IMO.

I am so glad to hear how everyone enjoyed Celia! I can not wait to see it on Saturday!

To those who went, what was the playbill like? Was it like the old one? Color?

re: Les Miserables- first preview review

Ruthie mentioned once in an interview that I read that she's way too old to do Fantine now, but actually she's only like, 37. And she looks a lot younger than Daphne does.

I'm so glad that Alex was awesome. I knew he would be, I just knew it :)

re: Les Miserables- first preview review

I recall having a lovely conversation with Henshall's husband Tim Hower after RENT. We were talking at the stage door and then we both went our own ways and invertenly sp? ended up on the uptown 7th ave subway. This was not long after they announced that Les Miserables was comming back. He did Marius in the toronto production with Colm. He said that he audtioned but didn't get it. I asked him if he could tell me who got it. He said that he can't for the obvious reasons. I then asked him if his wife thought about auditoning. He joked about how she doesn't have to audition and that she just has to pick up the phone and call to say she wants to do the show. Then the role would be her's. But, he told me that she just finnished up the women in white in London and wanted some down time which is something she had not had in a while.

He did Marius in the toronto production with Colm.

Toronto didn't have a separate production when Tim was in Les Miz. It was just an extra-long tour stop of the third national tour which Colm did exclusively (except for a few days in St. Paul before Toronto)*. Tim was on tour for a couple of years as Marius.

Ruthie/Brescia would look much younger in the role than Daphne.

When she was in the audience at Light in the Piazza (2006.04.18) I got to say hi. My friends and I coined the term "hot grandma" for how she looks now.

To be honest, she looks like a latin Joan Rivers to me...

Yea, I said it.

Ditto. Any word on the SRO situation?

After I see Daphne in the show, I'd love Ruthie on Broadway.

What can you expect. Let's not forget this is the same theatre that supposedly kicked a man out and beat him up in the lobby with his little ascot on . . .

re: Les Miserables- first preview review

I'm shocked how bad the reviews are of Daphne. I haven't seen her but, one would think they'd cast a good one for this remounting. I was hoping Joan Almedilla from the tour was cast as Fantine. I thought she was better than the other actors I've seen on Broadway, TAC and US tour shows. Well, with Daphne leaving temporarily to do another project, this will give the alternate or understudy a chance to breathe a new life to the character.

re: Les Miserables- first preview review

No student rush or lotto or ANYTHING?? That is so increadibly selfish and unfair. I want to see Daphne more than anything, but I can't if they don't give students some kind of break!

Random question:

In the revival, where is BRING HIM HOME placed. The first time I saw the tour it was underground while Marius was lying in front of him, but the second time it was immediately before DRINK WITH ME. I'd love an answer.

Erm. That'd be "Dog Eats Dog," where a different scraggly guy is singing over a horizontal Marius.
