Hey, Drew started his career in a country where it was the norm to have people in the ensemble understudy 3 or 4 different roles. It's like...full circle.
He must have a huge vocal range to be able to do both Javert and Valjean, not to mention Enjrolas as well!
It's funny--the first time I saw Drew's Enjolras, I commented to a friend that it would have made much more sense to have him understudying Thénardier or even Marius. And it looks like those are the only male roles in the show he won't be playing.
Baritone--he doesn't have all of Javert's low notes. Some, but not all.
well, I was watching some clips the other day from when he was on as Javert, and I have to say that I thought that he was pretty bad. Maybe he needed more rehearsal time, but he was just really uncomfortably out of his range and when it got too low he would either just get really quiet and raspy or he would shout out his lines. And I swear, there were times (Confrontation) where I saw his mouth open and he must have been singing but I couldn't hear anything coming out of his mouth.
He'll definitely be better as Valjean though. I think it's going to be weird but a really great kind of weird. But is he going to be able to carry Marius? Adam Jacobs is kind of schlubby, no? They'll have to put him on wires, lol...
With these new cast members happening, is the show extended again or is it til Labour Day??

i think the show is open ended now. The Limited engagement thing was just to get people in the seats and let the "country" know that Les Mis is back on broadway.
The leads have been extended till at least October.

is Dan Bogart leaving the show????
According to Broadway.com, they're currently selling tickets through December.
Thanks, I just wanted to know because I'm thinking of sending Gary Beach a letter about early July.
Anyone know what's up with Alex for them to need a temporary Valjean replacement?
Adam Jacobs? Schlubby? No.
Don't forget Ron Sharpe was Marius back in the day.
Adam's miniature but he just looks really compact and heavy to me. He's like my roommate's puggle, he looks all teeny but then you pick him up and it's like you're suddenly holding a gigantic frozen turkey.
Steven- the Drew Javert clips are on my bookcase where I keep my dvds. I'm sure they'll be up on youtube eventually though.

According to her dad's youtube (username = wolflaw) Cortney Wolfson, a fresh UM MT grad, has been cast as the Eponine cover. She is amazing, and I have been a fan for awhile. Check out some of her youtube performances!

I saw Drew as Enjorlas and Javet.. and I kinda thought he was eh.. He's too young for Javet... when he sang.. "in the days of my youth".. I was like.. um.. you look younger than the students..

Um...there's an r thre. yeah. like, javeRt.
I would be very interested in seeing Sarich's take on Fantine or Eponine. I would ask who to speak to about that, but it looks very much like if I just sit tight, it'll happen organically.
It's like the Drew Sarich Show or something. XD
Oh Lizzie, it may be time to bust out that manip again...

I saw Drew as Javert probably the first time he was on back in April and I thought he was pretty bad. I feel like it is too far out of his range. I think someone else said it, that when it got too low it was either really raspy or he just yelled a lot. Maybe he'll be a better Valjean? I still think he looks too young. I mean, Alex IS young for a Valjean but he doesnt really look it. Drew just looks too young to be a Valjean or Javert or whatever. We shall see though
Drew should start Valjean performances on July 23rd and his run will last until October 21st.
IMO, with how Drew has played SO many roles in this production. I feel that his unique style of sound and look that he is the archetype performer for how Cam wants the show to be. Otherwise why would he be getting all of these roles?
I also find it interesting that the two former Javert covers (Ben and Drew) have now been bumped to being Valjean covers...it's really strange.

The show is so old I feel they are TRYING to appeal to the younger masses with some HOT appeal. Drew is a rock n roller with a true pop/rock voice. He's a decent actor and a very good singer. I find it rediculous that he will be playing Valjean because of his youth and the youthful energy he exudes, He;s capable of playing probably anything but it doesn't mean he should or that he's the right type. This revival has been laden with rediculously imposed mandates from Cameron Macintosh. Starting with his LABORED politically correctness by only seeing certain ethnicities for certain roles as opposed to getting the best talent REGARDLESS of their race. Huge difference. It all seems to be backfiring as this production has had turmoil surronding it from the get-go. EGO-MONEY-ac
*shrugs* This revival has been going downhill for a while, and it was not that great to begin with. They may as well take some chances and experiment around, it's not like they have much to lose at this point anyway.
And I guess there's no such thing as a miscast when you're a super hot piece of ass like Drew is. Heh.
Who's going to be Valjean until July 23?
Agreed with friedrich. I found it really odd right off the bat HOW color-blind cast the entire revival was. Reminded me of the TV movie of Annie. Stop trying so hard, man!

Drew Sarich will now play VALJEAN

Drew is very excited. But he really doesn't need to be singled out as the only cast change.
p.s. Be it permanent or temporarily permanent.
pps: Thank you Victor Hawkes. You saved the day early on, and went out as Master of the House.

Drew isn't too young for Valjean. He is around the same age as Alexandar.
Hmph - I didn't know he played Javert.
Drew is nearly four years older than Alex.
p.s. And Javert 'even more older' than Valjean?
