Leslie Kritzer Is A National Treasure

I finally caught ROBBER BRIDEGROOM tonight and this production is only further proof that Kritzer is probably the funniest actress working in theater today. I loved this show from start to finish and think it's a pretty much perfect production, but it's Kritzer who (as always) was the standout. If you have the opportunity to go see her in this show, DO IT. Forget HAMILTON. Forget SHUFFLE ALONG. It's all about Leslie.

There are not enough words to express how much I enjoyed her performance in TRB.

I did Evita with her many years ago in stock in upstate NY. She was stunning as Eva, and a delight to work with. I can't think of a performance of hers that I've seen that I haven't loved (for the record, I haven't seen everything she's done, so there may, of course, be a clunker or two in her resume).

The real criminal in Robber Bridegroom is Kritzer, because she steals that show out from under the noses of everyone on that stage. This is also one of the very rare instances of a show making use of her talents in NYC. She's typically relegated to such thankless supporting roles (and even then very often manages to spin them into gold).



I think this makes her slightly difficult to cast in the tradtionally risk-averse minds of casting offices. She is a character actress in every sense of the phrase, and her dynamite vocals combined with her gonzo comedic chops limit what people see her as. I'm surprised it's taken her this long to end up in a Timbers production, since his comedy skews much closer to the sketch variety that she excels at.

But seriously. I mean, if there's one comedic actress working in New York right now with a voice capable of blowing the roof off, it's Kritzer. People should be mounting productions of shows based on her talents. It's criminal that that doesn't happen.

which makes me again ask WHY? why do people like Krakowski, who i also love, become major stars and Kritzer isnt even a "big" name in theatre?? WE all know her but the general public doesn't. just wondering why, after 15+ years in the business, she hasn't moved up in visibility and profile. she's so freaking hilarious and talented. her biggest Broadway role to date is maybe Jovie in ELF or Jane in CATERED AFFAIR? it is impossible to understand
