Oh, man, that's uncomfortable. Good for him for calling it out.

calling it out??? no, he did not. his response of "I don't like that joke, Bill..." to Bill's joke was part of the written script -- that is very clear based on Hillary's scripted response to Leslie.
people should read the entire article and watch the entire video before commenting. the only awkward thing about that exchange was De Blasio's attempt at rapping. truly horrifying.

You're totally right. I wasn't able to watch the video so just read the article. Still think that's an uncomfortable joke, though.

^ don't disagree... definitely an unfortunate joke.
When the mayor said he was running on CP time he meant cautious politician time NOT colored people time but the hyper sensitive chose to jump to the wrong conclusion.
Do you honestly think the mayor who is married to a black woman and Hilary Clinton who is running for the Presidency would consciously participate in a skit that offends one sector of the population?
The problem here is that people are so quick to accuse , point fingers and not give anyone the benefit of the doubt and automatically assume the worst...

umm.... the entire joke is the insinuation that CP Time means "Colored People Time." that's why Leslie says, "I don't like those kinds of jokes, Bill," and then Clinton clarifies to mean "cautious politician time." the insinuation is the entire point. did you not even watch the video?? jesus christ, people.

It wasn't awkward because it was offensive, it was awkward because it was stupid. Leslie's a good sport for going along with a lame sketch

This.

Probably at home, the good mayor and the mizzuz have some fun, maybe even the naughty kind, with the phrase "CP Time." Used in a political season, especially this one, it's somebody's bad thinking.
^ Given the embarrassingly over-enunciated way he set "the joke," I'm gonna presume otherwise

very disappointed in DeBlasio, not surprised about Hillz.
I'm surprised LMM was OK with Leslie using his costume from 'Hamilton'. Couldn't that be seen as a tacit endorsement of Hillary's candidacy from LMM? I'd think that most Broadway shows would try to stay away from political endorsements but maybe I'm wrong?
Yes JM I watched the video and I stand by what I wrote. And Jesus Christ has nothing to do with it so take a chill pill.
LMM is not the soul producer, he doesn't make each and every call. SOMEONE approved it, but no way to know who did.
Well, if Clinton and the Mayor were better actors it would have been funnier. Obviously it was a play on Colored People's Time. They had Odom Jr. there, in costume to represent both black poeple and the political side.
CPT time has been around for years. The same type of phrase has been applied to other groups of people. The bottom line is that it is true. I and my friends, both black and white, have used it for years. So I totally got what they were doing and was not offended. What will get me is if the black community gets all bent out of shape over this when it is a phrase many of us in the community use a lot. The "awkward" part was the bad acting! JMO

It looks like Leslie's own costume to me (?).

It was part of a skit where Bill time travels and meets Aaron Burr.
Renee has openly endorsed Hillary. I'm not sure if this was meant to be a personal endorsement for Leslie or not.
But either way it has nothing to do with LMM and who he may or may not be voting for.
This is an example of why we have such poor candidates running for office. Every single thing is over analyzed to the point of absurdity. It's also a reason that you see someone like Trump getting support. People are tired of this process and the media's attention to it. Let's stop walking on eggshells and address real issues that can help our country move forward. It was obviously scripted and if it offended anyone, they can choose to dwell on that or choose to move ahead to much bigger issues facing all of us.

What a dumb skit.
Odom's line was very scripted.
I'd like to meet the people who created this and thought it was a good idea.

beyond the potentially "offensive" comment, it was just a really poorly-written script. THAT is the biggest offense here.

Well considering I didn't see too many on-stage selfies from Bernie Sanders' visit last week, I'd guess LMM and others are on the Clinton train.
The only people I know who use the turn CP time are black people. So... I don't see this as even remotely offensive.
