^ Yes but, like chenoweth O'hara is a favorite of the times. This dosn't guarantee a rave much less a nomination. And in such a part as she has in nice work i could see them easily choosing the always loved peters, who is taking a more demanding storied lead like sally (much less in a return to the stage). Over a favorite in a piece many will dismiss as a tourist trap.

I think we are underestimating Caissie Levy in Ghost as a possible leading actress nomination. She did pretty well with critics in London I believe and I think she will get great reviews in NY. And a lot of people agree she is a sensation in the show (esp. "With You.) And Ghost is already getting a buzz goin so it might be a break out role for her.

Yes but, like chenoweth O'hara is a favorite of the times.

I think the two are hardly comparable. Chenoweth is a one trick pony who had a break out role on Broadway, won an award for it, repeated her schtick, and started to lose favor with the critics. You remember that she was not nominated for The Apple Tree (for which she was reviewed semi-positively) or for Promises Promises (for which she was almost universally panned).

O'Hara is a star of what should be a different era, and she has shown not only consistency, but versatility (a quality Ms. Chenoweth lacks). Is she capable of giving a bad performance? I'm sure! Who isn't? But I have yet to see her give a poor performance on stage. Her last role on Broadway that she was NOT nominated for was Lucy in Dracula in 2005, but she had her breakout role in Piazza in the same year and WAS nominated for that.

I think she could go the same way Chenoweth did in promises. Big tony sweetheart gets shafted due to work in subpar material.

She wasn't shafted because of her work in subpar material. She was shafted for her SUBPAR WORK in material. She just wasn't good. People get nominated if they do extraordinary work in bad shows. It happens all the time. Chenoweth's work in Promises Promises was NOT one of those times. If the material were all the nominating committee went off of, Katie Finneran and Sean Hayes wouldn't have been nominated either.

You people are missing the main point here. O'Hara is being given a slot for a role we haven't seen her perform yet. I mantain the tony voters are sure to honor peters with a nomination for her return to the stage, and getting a project she wanted to do up and running, Peters is also the darling of the tonys only chita has more noms. I promise they'll be alot quicker to reward an actress taking on a meaty role in a pet project (with a score by sondheim.) Then they will a actress taking on a puff piece who they've nominated thrice in this decade. If o'hara gets a spot it will be the fifth one if they choose to honor her instead of osnes, murin, cassie levy, or melissa. And from the london reviews levy is a force to be recokned with.

She did pretty well with critics in London I believe

What reviews called her a force to be reckoned with? She certainy didn't do well with the London critics:

Ben Brantley, NY Times (who hated the show, except for Sharon D. Clarke, by the way):
(Caissie Levy, in the Demi Moore part)
-That's his only mention of Levy in his entire (extremely negative) review

Daily Mail, UK:
It is unfair to judge Miss Levys acting, so wooden are her lines, but she has a STRONG voice. Turn it down a bit, theres a dear.

The Guardian, UK:
Caissie Levy's Molly, although well sung, seems somewhat grumpy

The Independent, UK:
Caissie Levy sings these songs with power but she cannot disguise the banality of their lyrics nor the sub-rock sameyness of the music

Not terrible reviews, but certainly not "force to be reckoned with."

Chenoweth is hardly a one trick pony. She can be a good dramatic actor but chose a role that suited her badly to show it off. Also she got raves for The Apple Tree but didn't receive a nomination because the show was closed while Legally Blonde was open.

Hmm didn't see those reviews adamgeer, but in terms of audience's reviews she is killing it. And I still hold that in NY she will get raves. At least I'm hoping, and I do think she will lol

This is a joke right? What reviews are you reading? They all said she can sing but she can't act her way out of a paper bag. Having seen her in the London production, I can tell you she's hardly a force. More like a tap on the shoulder. She was the only eligible actress I left out of my analysis of the potential nominations on purpose. I will be shocked if she gets a nomination.

You people are missing the main point here...Then they will a actress taking on a puff piece who they've nominated thrice in this decade.

Not only "thrice" in a decade, but 3 times in 4 years. All I am saying is that unless Kelli, not her SHOW but HER, gets panned, expect to see her nominated.

The Daily Mail review of Ghost is largly seen as a joke as is the critic who manages to disagre with every other critic everytime a new show opens. Cassie was not reviewed negative in The Independent review you posted, the only thing he said about her was that she sings with power, the rest of the line is his thoughts on the music. And to this day i cant understand Brantley's review, but recently that seems to be coming more and more common.

Yes ia few reviews were average for her that you seemed to have only posted (i do love the comment knocking her for being 'grumpy'....you know, after her lover died right in front of her eyes). However i also remember the Stage saying that it was because you belived the chemistry between the 2 leads etc that the show worked. I also remember Time Out saying that the 2 leads had really made the roles their own.

Also OK Magazine said
'‘A visual sensation that thrills, amazes and pulls at the heart strings. Richard Fleeshman is vocally outstanding,
Caissie Levy is heartbreaking and Sharon D Clarke steals the show. Ghost should run and run for years to come’

I also remember she got a good review in The Sun, The Express as well as many major online sites as well.

Unlike the US our newsparers like the right wing Daily Mail or the stuffy The Independent, those are not the BIG reviews, they are just another review. Both Richard and Cassie did fine with most of the critics, nothing saying their performances were out of this world but they did good (and i agree as someone who has seen the show in both Manchester and London).

Will Richard or Cassie get nominated at the Tony Awards? No, notthing to do with them but the material is too soft for either to give Tony Nominated performances (though the pair both have moments which are truly brilliant)

As for Ghost getting nominated for best new musical, just remember that here in the UK it's missed out and getting that nomination at some major awards (i honestly don't know why, it's a great show)

Best Actress in a Musical:

The race I think will be very interesting is Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.... And the reason I say that is - I feel that the Porgy supporting men will be (deservedly) revered and will take 2, possibly 3, slots.... I also think Patrick Page will be recognized for his professionalism and commitment throughout that debacle. These are my predictions for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical:

David Alan Grier - Porgy and Bess
*Phillip Boykin - Porgy and Bess
Joshua Henry - Porgy and Bess
Patrick Page - Spiderman
Ricky Martin - Evita
