For those of you who didn't know, Lilli Cooper (Spring Awakening) will be joining the 2nd National Tour of Wicked tonight (ensemble, u/s Elphaba). I'm actually kind of surprised that she's doing this, but she hasn't done anything on Broadway since Spring Awakening. I'm sure she'll make a great Elphaba. Isn't she quite young, though?
On a somewhat unrelated note, am I right in thinking she is only the 4th Elphaba to play the role in the states of African American descent? (I can think of Saycon Sengbloh, Dan'Yelle Williamson, Brandi Massey and then Lilli)

Yes, that is correct. There's also Alexia Khadime, who did it in London.

I was thinking the same thing. She is indeed. The first one in 5 years at that.
I find it surprising that she's covering Elphaba, I didn't know she was a high belter...she has a great voice though.
I'm not surprised this is the first thing she's done since Spring Awakening. She was 16/17 at the time so she's 22/23 now, I'm guessing she wanted to take time off to go to school and she will have graduated at this point.
I love her voice. I cannot wait to hear her take on those songs.
What happened to Brandi Massey? She had one of the best "Defying Gravity" I have heard in awhile.

Wow. Lilli Cooper has an amazingly unique voice...not really an Elphaba voice, but I'm certainly intrigued. Enough to get my ass to a tour stop if I knew for sure she was on..

She'll be 23 this year. She left Spring Awakening to attend college full-time, and graduated last year from Vassar. That's why she's been largely absent from the stage.
Lilli! I remember way back when when there was the debate over Lea possibly doing Elphaba, and someone said Lilli was the only Spring Awakening cast member who could handle it vocally.

What the hell is a Dan'Yelle... Did they mean Danielle but not know how to spell it?
Saycon Sengblog was the standby on broadway for years and she had incredible vocals...wish she would come back full time

Her name is Dan'Yelle. There are different spellings of it. Not really that hard to figure out.

I would love to hear her sing this score! I hope she gets the chance to go on once she's settled in.

Thank you, I'm not very twitter savy so I didn't know how to direct link. Now I see that opening expand in a new tab provides the direct link.

Wow, she looks beautiful in green. (Not that she wasn't beautiful already.)
I would have loved to see her as Elphaba! I bet she was GREAT!

That is correct. She's temporarily joined the Australian production as Elphaba standby. She'll be performing two shows a week for the next little while.
