Does anyone else think that Lin-Manul Miranda should host SNL? I think it would be soo funny and I think he would do a great job. What do you guys think?
Would he great? Who's to say. Unfortunately, the mainstream masses (nor Lorne Michaels) cares to find out. Heck... they don't even know who he is -- even with his appearance on FOX TV's HOUSE. Only us Broadway followers know who he is. Hopefully, the film-version of IN THE HEIGHTS catapults him out of the Broadway bubble.
What's amusing is that all these Broadway people who've managed to break out and find success on television or film -- their 'new' fans have NO idea they came from Broadway.
There are SO many people I know who love GREY'S ANATOMY and have no clue about Chandra Wilson or Sara Ramirez's musical backgrounds. Or those millions who have no idea that Lilith of CHEERS and FRASIER fame is a dancer.
How long has it been since Bernadette Peters hosted? She did that great number about making love to yourself. I seem to recall Lily Tomlin also hosting, but I may be incorrect. Alec Baldwin hosts all the time so at least our Broadway Babies aren't completely overlooked.
In the early 80's, a segment was given to the original cast of Pirates of Penzance but that was never repeated.

Yes Lily Tomlin has hosted- she's a legendary comedienne and one of the real pioneers of TV comedy/variety shows.

Anytime a thought for a thread ends with "Should host SNL" then just stop right there. It's not going to happen for anyone who only has 4 actual Hollywood acting credits

He's adorable and it's a nice pipe dream but in reality: Not gonna happen.
I think the only way this will ever happen is if the IN THE HEIGHTS movie turns out to be a HUGE smash. Zach Galifianakis wasn't really a "name" until after The Hangover came out, and he turned out to be one of the best hosts of last season.
I don't think it is they don't KNOW they came from b'way...let's face it: they don't care. They know what they see and they like it. Most don't care about an actor's history. In fact the only time you EVER hear about it is if there is "dirt" on their earlier life.
WE know who there are because we knew them when they WERE with us.
Gabby Sidibe did it after one major credit, but that kind SNL of blew up in everyone's face, and showed she needed some more experience under her belt.
Lin-Manuel would never happen, unless he got an Oscar nomination, otherwise the rest of his story wouldn't really matter to mainstream America.

Yep with rave reviews, entertaining interviews & an Oscar nomination.

Blew up in everyone's face! The worst that happened was that she stumbled over a couple of lines. Other than that, she showed that she has impeccable comedic timing!
Really? My partner and I have been super-forgiving of SNL and its occasional missteps, but both agreed that was one of the worst episodes in recent memory.
Nothing was worse than January Jones! (the Grace Kelly skit still makes me cringe)

Of course Lin Manuel should host SNL---he's a terrific performer and prob up for anything. But while SNL is mulling it over, let's hope Lin keeps taping bits for Sesame Street and The Electric Company on PBS. Not only is he so entertaining, but he gets to be educational as well.
you tube---sesame murray has a little lamb
electric co--- silent e is a ninja
karen olivo also does a bit
Sesame St--it's a habitat
Sure, I think he's perfectly capable of doing so, but it won't happen anytime soon. At least not until he becomes more popular among a mainstream audience.

When Bernadette hosted, she was fresh off of co-starring in THE JERK and SILENT MOVIE. And she was Steve Martin's girlfriend.
When was the last time she had a lead role in a major movie?
Bernadette Peters' last lead roles in a major motion picture were in 1989 -- in PINK CADILLAC (opposite Clint Eastwood) and SLAVES OF NEW YORK.
She has played countless lead roles in television films but those 2 films were the last ones she ever played a leading role in.

Yes- Slaves of New York pretty much took everyone involved down. Steve Buscemi was the only survivor.
