Okay, has anyone else seen this? This is actually SO cool. I could spend hours exploring this video. AMAZING.

How do they film these? Especially this one. I bet they had made than a million takes to get those filming positions. The whole 3D video thing is just so mesmerizing. Like how you not able to see the bottom or top of the camera when moving it?

I, along with several other on this board I'm sure, were at the taping for this a few weeks ago. The camera rig was six go-pros on a monopod, which they had in a different spot on stage for each take of the song. The final take was the shots at the top of pride rock, shot with the rig on a 14 foot pole to get the faces at the top of the set piece. Over the course of the three hour shoot, they ran the number six times, and also had a few DSLR cameras capturing footage for the teaser they released yesterday. The Wired article has the full detail. What amazes me the most was that they didn't get to see the footage until after the shoot was over, and they just had to hope they had the footage they needed.

I suggest watching it on your phone. It was all kinds of cool watching the video move as I moved my phone, rather than dragging with the mouse/cursor watching it on my laptop.
Pro Tip: Get some ting like google cardboard to mount your phone in, and play the video. You won't regret it. At all. It's like your on the stage, having simba being held over pride rock in your own hands if you do the motions. You will almost be acting on a broadway stage. AMAZING! ![]()
I don't know how to delete this. I misclicked.
It would have been great if it would stop freezing and slowing down.

I didn't experience any slow down or freezes, either on my phone or on my laptop. Sounds like an issue with your internet speeds.
Use your phone, stand in the middle of the room and just spin in circles. That was just incredible.

360 videos must take alot longer to load, so just let it load for a while whole you do something else. You won't regret it at all. There's nothing in the video that speeds or freezes, it's probably just that it's not loaded fully.
New cool thing that I noticed to see in the video: look down from pride rock, it really helps give the felling of the imensity of the set.
Smart move on Dineys part. The opening minutes of this show are the most exciting I've ever seen in any show. Too bad it's followed by the longest, most boring musical ever. Not even this video would get me to sit through this again.

Wired gives good insight into how it was filmed. Apparently it was all shot from 6 gopros.

Sometimes, I think about going back to Lion King solely for that incredible opening number. Now I never have to shell out money to that show ever again. Thank you, Disney!

Jordan's right, this is the way to watch it! Watching it on my desktop, I kept ending up in the wings...

I preferred watching School of Rock's to be honest. I liked that they did theirs in one shot...I mean, if you are going to make a 360 video, why have multiple shots that you edit between? That was jarring to me.

I just saw this video for the first time tonight and wow!! Simply, amazing. I went to post it here but, I saw there was already a topic...I'm a little behind lol.
Bumping for those who might have missed it the first time around. :) I've seen The Lion King twice on Broadway and this video really captivates the beauty of this opening number.
