I love Hargitay, but I don't know if I can picture her in a period piece.

Paltrow is absolutely perfect for Charlotte, but I can't see her as Desiree at all.
Danner, on the other hand, would be inspired casting.

I don't think they'd sell tickets, but can you imagine Audra McDonald as Desiree and Diahann Carroll as Madame Armfeldt?

Yeah, but these replacements could be contracted past August 29th.
It could close in June, it could close in August, or it could close in November. We just don't know! Maybe it will run and maybe it won't!

If you are only remembering THE BRADY BUNCH you should know that Henderson got her start on Broadway playing the title role in the musical FANNY in 1954. She went on to replace Mary Martin in THE SOUND OF MUSIC and starred in the flop musical THE GIRL WHO CAME TO SUPPER in 1963. She had a beautiful voice and was herself very beautiful, not at all like her persona in THE BRADY BUNCH. She could indeed play Madame Armfeldt, IMO.

I think Paltrow could surprise people as Desiree, she wouldn't be miscast in my opinion, perhaps playing-against-type instead. I doubt we'll ever get to know.
I, of course, love the idea of Murphy as Desiree but this production is going for star replacement. I've not warmed up to the idea of Brooke Shields as Desiree, but it's not completely wrong. I think Vanessa Williams could be great in the part, but she's busy, of course. Mary Stuart Masterson was great in NINE, but again, I doubt she could sell tickets.
Laura Linney would be my top choice, with Rosemary Harris as her mother.

I think Vanessa Williams could be great in the part, but she's busy, of course.
She won't be come June 20. SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM is a limited run through June 13.
That said, the producers are looking for bigger star power.

I think Brooke would be WRONG for this role.
If she were a bigger star and not in Enron, I would say Marin Mazzie. I feel like she could be SO good as Desiree.

Mazzie was allegedly involved in casting the first time around, but they VERY WISELY went with a star. As great as Mazzie is, the production would be long closed by now with her in the lead. And I really do like Mazzie a lot, it's just the truth.

Posted: 4/17/10 at 7:16pmOh I know. That's why I said I wish she were a bigger name. I think her Clowns would be exquisite. She would make a great interim Desiree if they need one before a new star comes in. Maybe she'll do a different production someday.
