And as far as I know, I don't think we've mentioned Kerry in a couple posts...even the last ones to mention her were mostly positive...I think we've calmed down. But I'm glad to see you're ready to defend the great Kerry at any moment.

Well, I think that if anything good has come of this thread it's that it's got LouW95 to come out of hiding!
We've missed you Lou!
I read your Letter to the Editor over at Broadway.com. I was surprised that it had to do with LSOH. You certainly have a wide range of interests!
Glad you're back Lou!

Kerry is a star and I will defend her.
She is a great singer. Now I hope they put her back in Hairspray.
It is not the same without her.

If you are going to pick on anyone pick on Nancy L from
(Please Never Sing or Dance)
Oy vey now she needs help.
People cracking on Kerry is an outrage.
Why must all the good people get cracked on?

i saw little shop...i thought kerry was wonderful, myself...she actually made me BELIEVE audrey, she wasn't as ridiculous as other people who have played her, she actually was plausibly a real person.
but the show was DEFINITELY stolen by crystal, ronette, and chiffon...those three girls are all amazing singers, they're hilarious, and they just kept the show going. they are my idols, lol

I think the star of Little Shop is the voice of the plant and the plant puppet. It is huge.

Corine,
It's an outrage to critique Kerry's performance but perfectly fine to turn around and bash another actor's work just cause YOU have an opinion?
Come on now. That's just too hypocritical for words!
I didn't miss Ellen Greene's lisp, belt or boobs. I missed the qualities that all actresses must bring to the role of Audrey: emotional fagility and a certain sadness at the way her life's turned out. Without those, the character does not want and is not compelling enough for the audience to really root for her. I did think she showed glimpses of that performance and, with a stronger actor's director, could have really made something special and unique of the role.

Posted: 1/6/04 at 11:08amAlice Ripley would have totally kicked ass in this role. Kerry should have stuck with Hairspray. Along with Marissa. Along with Matt. Ugh!

I really think that Kerry Butler is great.
She has a wonderful voice, and when she gets cast in the right role is definite Tony material.
She's great at playing ditzy... but when she has the right material and can break loose, a 'la "Can't Stop the Beat" and "Suddenly Seymour"... all shivers and goosebumps... it's great.
Thinking about the Little Mermaid post, I would love to see her in that role... but maybe I'm ready for her to get a role that is more mature. :)
