I apologize for commencing another thread about The King and I, but I really would like to get my message heard after the disappointing news that ruined my day. Will there or won't be a Live from Lincoln center broadcast?
I asked a friend of mine involved with the show and they're not sure as of right now. They're all waiting to see if it happens.
Pity if it is not preserved . A production like this comes along once in a generation.

I second this
What's even more annoying is that it will most likely be broadcast on closing night to the tri-state area with no national broadcast or subsequent home video release...just like South Pacific.
Was south pacific recorded with the closing night cast?
So this hypothetical recording with be with Mazzie?
What happened with South Pacific was Kelli o'hara came back for the final week specifically for the taping. I don't know if they would do that here. I think it will be a light in the piazza situation.
Which was kind of a ****ty thing to do to Laura Osnes, but that's show biz.

For South Pacific, Kelli came back for the last two weeks to close the show and she did the recording. But Matthew Morrison had already departed and is not in the recording.
I can't imagine LCT doing a recording with Marin instead of Kelli, especially after Kelli won the Tony for it. I don't know who would play the king. Thoughts?

Well for Piazza, Kelli wanted to come back and do it but it conflicted with Pajama Game at the time.
Why not Daniel, he has mass appeal to lost fans!

I guess I'm just thinking if they hypothetically were to bring back Kelli for it, they'd try for Ken as well? But that's a lot less likely to happen.

South Pacific was definitely broadcast beyond the tri-state area, as I watched it while I was home visiting family in Ohio.

Tri-state area? Don't all PBS' show Live from Lincoln Center? Certainly South Pacific got a national broadcast--I saw it from my local PBS (I live in Victoria, BC but we get Seattle's station) and family in Edmonton Alberta watched it on the Spokane PBS.

I'd honestly rather see Daniel than Ken
I wouldn't mind if Mazzie did it to be honest, she's great
From what I understand local affiliates can opt out of LFLC broadcasts though I couldn't tell you why they would.

And they often do. I remember a lot of posters being very disappointed when South Pacific aired that their local affiliate wasn't airing it.
That is definitely true--I know Seattle's PBS showed Light at the Piazza in the end at 2am--but since then they seem to show the Live From shows basically when other PBS' do.
On an optimistic note, I hijacked this from Queen Alice on another thread:
Since all the major LCT musicals of the past decade have been Broadcast; I do suspect plans are in place for the KING AND I. I also suspect Kelli O'Hara has it in her contract to be part of the broadcast, so yes, they will need to find an elegant way to relieve Marin perhaps a few days early if the taping does happen.
FWIW, I was at Kelli and Ken's last performance. At the end of the curtain call, Bartlett Sher joined everyone on stage and gave a little speech. He ended with the very cryptic statement that they were saying good-bye to Kelli, but they weren't really saying good-bye because she would be back right here.
Filming that happened a long time ago might have been for the library collection.

Thanks for the information. I took solace in getting thickets for another show. Might as well make the most of this trip. ![]()

The filming that occurred already was indeed for the Lincoln center archives. It was recorded before Ken Watanabe left the first time.

Only two week to go till the show closes and there isn't a broadcast on schedule. Indeed, it is extremely sad that this beautiful production is not going to be a part of the series.
Sad, but it looks like no live broadcast. The South Pacific broadcast was not the next to last performance on Saturday night, as I thought. It was the Wednesday night show at the beginning of the last week. Kelli O'Hara has a concert engagement on Saturday, the 18th.
I still have hopes that they will show a filmed version. It's probably expensive to do it live.
For O'Hara fans on Long Island, Kelli will be performing at the Staller Center of Stony Brook University on December 10th. That may seem to be a long time from now, but actually we are almost halfway through 2016 already.
On the negative side, about 80 percent of the seats are gone. On the positive side, all seats are $50, chump change by Manhattan standards, and the Center Main Stage only seats about 1000, so even the rear seats are not far off.
