I'm amused by the fact that Matthew Murray loving LIZA annoys the s*** out of some people.
I'm also very glad Simon didn't review her for Bloomberg.

Exactly. It would have been an entire article about how the mole on Liza's face ruins the evening.

This sounds very much like the show she did in Manchester six months ago, though I too think there were more than four numbers in the Kay Thompson sequence there. It was my first time seeing Liza live and I went in with low-ish expectations which she exceeded to excess.
There was a straight man sat near me as well and he appeared to understand and enjoy the show - how bizarre!
Her cockney accent is a lot better than Patti Lupone's (oops - sorry - that argument's on another thread) and her British audience loved it, even though Chelsea is nowhere near Cockney London.

Posted: 12/4/08 at 3:10pmScripps, I understand that Elsie's accent was a deliberate choice on Liza's part. Sally and Elsie shared a flat in Chelsea, but the latter was actually born in Cheapside.

Posted: 12/4/08 at 3:23pmAfter his absolutely disgusting review of 'The Act' in 1977, John Simon should have been deported. And I think 'The Act' is a terrible show too.

jv92: That review was perhaps the low point of theater criticism, ever.
Since every Liza thread needs a bitchy comment or two, here's my contribution.
She looks fantastic in close ups, too. And better than 80% of the gals that came to her opening night party.
I will not make fun of a certain star that has had way too many nose jobs

I know, Tulita...those After Party pictures are REALLY scary.
The one of Arlene Dahl made me cry.

Posted: 12/4/08 at 3:49pmI know what you mean about Ms. Dahl. I saw her at an event and she looked like her head was wrapped in cotton candy. I remember her having an afternoon tv show when I was in high school "Arlene Dahl's Beauty Spot." Anyone recall?

I confess I've never read the source material Reginald and I also confess to never having read any Nancy Mitford either, though I did see The Mitford Girls during its brief West End run (and understand it was referred to in the family as "La Triviata").

Ah, Scripps, that's most likely because I made it all up.
I'd love to have seen "The Mitford Girls"!

A few thoughts RE: the after-party pictures...
1) Liza looks good from far away. You can see the close-ups for yourself. Eesh.
2) Christine Ebersole's hair looks almost unreal...in a GREAT way.
3) How has Sandra Bernhardt's forehead size doubled in the last few months...? She looks terrible.

I think Liza looks pretty great even up close. Let's remember she is 62. (Though she could throw some Crest White Strips up in her grill.)
I saw Sandra last night, and she actually looked really good. I think she has one of those faces that's just a disaster in still photos.
I think Christine Ebersole should do a musical version of the life of Diane Sawyer.

I heard two ladies talking:
-"Oh, wait, who is that woman?"
-"What's her name? Sarah Bernhardt, right?"
Yeah, uh, close.

How wonderful that Miss Minnelli is still performing...but I can't help but wonder if her Mother would still be singing at 62 years old(if things would of been different for her)
I wish all the best for Liza...
But those PICTURES...who takes those pictures?...I would demand screens and vaseline on the lens...
I don't want reality, I want illusion, said Miss Blanche...

More to the point, will you still be heterosexual when you leave?
