This plot sounds a bit like Mambo Italiano...but we will see...

Playbill.com has learned that Tony Award winner John Lloyd Young, seen this past summer in the Hollywood Bowl's all-star Les Misérables in Concert, has landed a leading role in his first feature film.
Lloyd Young will play the title character in the new comedy "Oy Vey My Son Is Gay." The screenplay — penned by Evgeny Afineevsky, Joseph Goldman and Martin Guigui — won several screenwriting awards at film festivals this year, and the work is now being made into a feature film.
The Tony-winning star of Jersey Boys will be joined on screen by Saul Rubinek and Lainie Kazan, who will play his parents, as well as Carmen Electra and Vincent Pastore. Producers are currently in talks for the male actor who will star opposite Lloyd Young.
The film is described as "a heartfelt comedy about a close-knit family's reaction to their beloved son coming out of the closet." Producers are Evgeny Afineevsky, Svetlana Anufrieva, Rich Cowan and Alexei Diveyeff-Tserkovny.
Production for "Oy Vey My Son Is Gay" is scheduled to begin next week in Washington.
John Lloyd Young received a Tony Award for his work as Frank Valli in the Tony-winning musical Jersey Boys. For that performance he also won Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk and Theatre World awards. His other theatrical credits include The Drawer Boy as well as productions at the McCarter Theatre and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Carmen Electra's presence is always a sign of danger.
LOL...I know
I don't know why, but just reading the title made me think Kazan would be in it...and she is!

I can't even pronounce them.
Isn't his last name actually just "Young"? It's not like Andrew Lloyd Webber whose actual surname is two names. Right?

I had hoped that his success in Jersey Boys might have led to more Broadway musicals. I'm sure he's getting a tidy sum for doing this and I wish him all the best, but still . . . .
Lizzie, I believe you're right.
Sounds like a predictable B-movie to me. Also sounds like something I'd totally watch. :)

That may be the worst title I've ever heard of anything.
I totally remember hearing about this from a woman who is like a grandmother to me. She's in her 90's (and still working!) had a driver who has/had something to do with this film. I forget what exactly but I'll ask if she remembers his name. Too funny to hear about it again. I don't think I could ever forget that title!
Sounds like a straight-to-DVD gay film like ADAM & STEVE (with another Broadway actor, Malcolm Gets).
I adore Adam & Steve.
This is what I thought of the second I read this:

I guess it beats "Mamma Mia, My Son is Qwee-ia".
I love what AfterElton.com said about it: http://www.afterelton.com/blog/snicks/tony-winner-john-lloyd-young-to-star-in-the-most-fabulously-titled-gay-film-ever?&comment=59470
Lainie Kazan has made a career out of playing ethnic stereotype after ethnic stereotype.
Zzz...
Congrats to JLY. Nice guys don't finish last.
They don't finish last but they DO go direct to DVD.

Kazan's resume, she's been in about 25 films, Broadway, stints on endless TV series. SHe also has a decades long successful singing career and still sells out her performances. She's the only one paying the bills around her house and there was a time when she couldn't work because of health, went broke and lost everything including the husband. "Love is all there Is' is one of my fav of her flilms. Give her a break..she's almost 70 years old and looks pretty darn good! Stupid title, no academy awards for this one but there will be a paycheck at the end of the day.
John Lloyd Young and Lainie Kazan? Yeah, I'll see it. If it has the two of them and is at least as good as Mambo Italiano, I'll have a good time. It already sounds better than the majority of the gay independent films out there. If we're so damned artistic, why can't we make any decent movies? I've been recently watching a lot of gay independent films lately, hoping in vain to find a diamond in the rough. It's like visual constipation...painfully waiting for something substantial to come out. Ugh!
John will do a fantastic job.
The mindf*ck of watching JLY make out with Jai Rodriguez might just be worth the ticket price.
Mister Matt, I agree. That's why I watch mostly foreign gay movies. Much better than most of ours. Although I have run across a few clunkers!
