Sorry if this has already been discussed here, but I couldn't find a thread.
Does anyone know if the movie version of London Road will ever be screened in the US anytime soon? Or ever? It looks so interesting, and it's a shame that NTL is only playing it in the UK.

I saw a production of London Road twice at CanStage in Toronto. There was a dazzling cast of Canadian performers, well-known to Toronto audiences. The show itself was unique and thought-provoking. This was the first production outside of London UK. I'm not sure how well it would lend itself to film, but I would certainly go to see the movie. I don't know how the actors ever learned this music. It was an enormous task, especially given that the musical only had a 2-3 week run.

I see it's playing at City Cinemas Village East on Second Avenue here. Might catch it this weekend.

I imported the UK DVD about a year ago and really liked it. Very interesting piece and I loved where the story went at the end, focusing on the positive things that happened in the community.

I really loved this. I saw at Village East Cinemas this morning and found it quite thrilling. First, a moment of appreciation for the brilliant actress that is Olivia Colman. She seems to be in nearly every British drama that is out lately, and I've loved her in all of them. I'm currently watching an off-beat comedy called Flowers, she was wonderful in Broadchurch, and in this musical she fits her character so well. I think there are very few things this woman can't do!
London Road to me shouldn't work on paper. But onscreen (and I can imagine onstage), its an oddly thrilling experience. These neighborhood residents really draw you in with your stories. I thought it was fascinating examination of how a serious crime and a huge story can affect a small town. The score has a Philip Glass like quality and I found it closer to opera than musical, but it serves story so well. I think it's one of the better films to come out this year and I hope that more people seek it out.
