Watch the scene with Lucy in the box at the Imperial "watching" THE MOST HAPPY FELLA. (Actually just excerpts from the cast album) Watch the others in the balcony (audience members) and you will see several HAPPY FELLA cast members.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

There was a short-lived series called Pearl, starring Rhea Perlman as a middle-aged woman who decided to go back to college.
In one episode -- the only one I ever saw, I think -- her snotty professor (Malcolm McDowell) had two tickets to Rent (this was about the time it had first opened) but wasn't able to drive for some reason and asked Rhea Perlman if she could make the drive to New York. She did, but she didn't realize until they arrived at the theatre that he was asking her only to drive him there, not to actually attend the show with him.
Sound like a laugh riot? No? Well, see, that's why the show didn't last more than a season.
Also, do all those dinner theatre shows that the Golden Girls went to count? The Iceman Cometh starring Father Mulcahy from M*A*S*H!

In "The Apartment" they go to see the Music Man, and are seen standing outside the theatre.
In "Down With Love," Ewan McGreggor takes his various women to see "Camelot."

Then, there are two episodes with Broadway themes, but the shows are fictional. One episode has Bette Midler doing a musical called Rochelle, Rochelle and she is sidelined at a Broadway softball game. Jerry is dating the understudy, so the theory is that his crew was behind it.
The other included Raquel Welch starring in a show called Scarsdale Surprise. It also includes the Tony Awards, where Kramer gets caught up with a group accepting an award. He ends up having to fire Raquel Welch because she does not swing her arms when she tap dances.

Lucy must have seen BRIGADOON or she wouldn't have had that Dream.

Rachel: You know what we should all do? Go see a musical.
Chandler: (confused) Sure...
Rachel: And you know which one we should see? The 1996 Tony award winner. Do you happen to know the name of that one?
Chandler: I don't know... um, Grease?
Rachel: No....
Chandler: Rent?
Rachel: Yes! Rent!
Chandler: Okay, so when do you want to go?
Rachel: What? Oh, I'm sorry, I can't, I'm busy.
They never go though.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05
