Oh no 
If she never did anything else, she left us with one of the most incredible scores ever written in Secret Garden, and that alone would put her up with the greats. So saddened to hear this.

Rest In Peace to a talented lady with an amazing history.
The score for The Secret Garden is sublime and pitch perfect for the story. Bullseye.

It's an incredibly skillful score, and I wish she had returned more to the theatre.
Even if we believe the rumors that dance arranger Jeanine Tesori did a lot of uncredited work making Secret Garden sound the way it did, Simon's melodies are still there. Though WAITRESS took a lot of credit, Secret Garden had a female bookwriter/lyricist, composer, director, and lead producer/set designer...which was notable in the 90s.
(And I always forget she's Carly Simon's sister!!)

Over the years in interviews and in her memoir, her sister Carly always talked so lovingly about Lucy. Carly also suffered from breast cancer in the late 1990s. Such sad news.

I was floored by the fact that she was the 3rd female broadway composer by 1991?!?! Is that possible? Wow. RIP, Lucy, and thank you for the glorious Secret Garden.

Like…WTF?…Jeanine Tesori?!?! Is that actually it? Damn…thats so depressing…meanwhile listening to “The Secret Garden” as my own personal tribute to Lucy and also reminded of the great talents of Alison Fraser and Robert Westenberg et.al. and an era of the Broadway Musical we might never see the likes of again.

I’m surprised Encores hasn’t done SECRET GARDEN yet. Maybe in the 2024 season?

It has had 2 notable concert productions semi recently (the World AIDS Day concert in 05, and then the Avery Fisher Hall concert in 16), and the commercial rights have been held since at least 2016. Warren Carlyle is directing a Broadway-aimed revival of it in LA at the Ahmanson this spring. I would not expect Encores to do it anytime soon.

At the final performance ofThe Secret Garden on Broadway. Lucy, Carly and their mother were sitting right in front of us. As the theatre went dark Lucy Simon leaned over to her mother and said " This is all for you mom. I Love You." Funny all these years later I still recall that moment as if it was yesterday.
"I hope your Fanny is bigger than my Peter."

Very sad. THE SECRET GARDEN is a favorite musical and cast album of mine. While DOCTOR ZHIVAGO flopped on Broadway, I will say that the cast album has a couple of beautiful songs…stream it sometime.

WOW - Carly's sister Joanna Simon (an opera singer) died from thryoid cancer at age 84 the day before Lucy died. How horrible is this ? This makes Carly the only survivng child of the family, as their brother passed away at 71 from cancer in 2018.

I worked with her sister and was lucky enough to meet Lucy several times.
A class act. I wish she could have seen the new LA production of The Secret Garden.
