re: MOST OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED BROADWAY STARS

I used to think Carol Channing was overrated. Then, I heard from other people how great of a performer she is and how she can make you laugh. The reason I thought she was overrated because of her voice I heard on HELLO, DOLLY. I don't think Idina is overrated. I think some reason others dislike her is because of her fans. It's really sad some people stoped liking her because of her fan base.

Zeitoujo, how many of these people you consider overated have you seen doing more than a few songs or shows? How qualified are you to rate their careers?

Zeitoujo--how do you define overrated? I think that few people on this board have probably heard of VIctoria Matlock; I wouldnt have if not for way too many Wicked threads, but overrated...how can she be overrated if the general publidc didnt even rate her to begin with...and she certainly has less hype than Megan HIlty

note:I picked Victoria Matlock as one of MANY examples of the abhove fact from your list

Elphba3, I agree with a lot of your underrated list, but Brian Stokes Mitchell is amazing. Any questions, see the "South Pacific in Concert" DVD.

And, I just love Ethel Merman. Period.

You are so right I*Heart*Fame, people seem to think "overrated" means "performers I don't like."

re: MOST OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED BROADWAY STARS

So I'm a wee biased in saying I stand up for Adam Pascal. I truly believe he is a gifted rock singer, perhaps not the grandest "Broadway" vocalist; but he is talented. On one note I do agree with the overrated-ness (if that tis even a word...). It seems to me alot of people only know him as Roger from RENT, and they don't take the time to listen to his own music, which I recommend to anyone looking for a good mellow rock/indie-rock CD.

Anyhoo, I believe that John Tartaglia and Julia Murney are underrated.

re: MOST OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED BROADWAY STARS

^Julia Murney is underrated. Even thought she was the only Elphaba I've seen, she was absolutely magnificent. I was glad I caught her on the last tour stop and I'm glad the principals will be going to Broadway(even though I'm mostly excited for her).

re: MOST OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED BROADWAY STARS

Julia Murney hasn't done enough to be considered over- or underrated yet. So far, she's been in one extremely short-lived show. That does not make her a Broadway "star."

I agree with the poster who said Chenoweth is NOT overrated, you're all biased because of WICKED. She was around (and won a Tony) before WICKED, and she'll be around decades after.

re: MOST OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED BROADWAY STARS

Stephanie Block is overrated??? How is that possible? She's hardly even acknowledged... she doesn't have a Tony... people hardly talk about her... Pirate Queen is her first big show... how can she be overrated? She's a working actor... she doesn't get the recognition she deserves, in my very humble opinion! God, it's like, as soon as someone gets a job they are overrated? What?

What EXACTLY are your terms of "overrated" and "underrated"? How can Beth Leavel be underrated? Last time I checked she had a Tony, and is doing very well for herself. I don't get it, at all.

See, bella, this is the problem - I'll bet you a million dollars this poster had never even heard of Leavel before DROWSY.

re: MOST OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED BROADWAY STARS

Yeah and I wonder if he has even seen ALL of them perform, LIVE. Because I don't think you can judge someone's "overrated" or "underrated" status until you've seen them all live. And having seen a healthy number of them, I would beg to differ.

re: MOST OVERRATED AND UNDERRATED BROADWAY STARS

ok, so I dont really feel like I know enough broadway people and their careers well enough to fairly judge who's overrated and underated.

I WILL say, however, that I do agree about Idina BUT that doesn't mean I dont think she deserves all the aknowledgment she's gotten. Its just that some of her more "fangirly" fans seem to think she's God... and, clearly she's not :) insanely talented, yes. But not God. So its really more what her fan base has made her OUT to be that makes her overrated.

I think thats probably the case for MOST people who've been listed as overrated. Its not that they dont deserve to be where they are. And I agree with the people who've said its important to remember theres a big difference between "performers I dont like" and "performers that are overrated"

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.
