MUST SEE Shows This August.

I'm going down to NYC this August and am planning on seeing about 4-5 shows. I'm having a terrible time deciding on what shows to see because I love so many. Please help! I already bought tickets for HAIRSPRAY on the 15th.

Xanadu, Curtains, Frost/Nixon, Legally Blonde, Jersey Boys...

I have very mixed feelings about XanadU and Curtains. I don't know if I would want to see something like that if there are definitely better things out there. Jersey Boys-no, it'll be on Broadway forever and I very rarely come down to NYC, so it's not a must-see for me.

I was thinking:
Mary Poppins
Avenue Q- how long do you think it'll last on Broadway?

I would definitley see Frost/Nixon.

Also consider:

A Chorus Line
Chicago
The Drowsy Chaperone
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Is RENT worth seeing with Anthony and Adam or is it just a no-brainer to see the movie instead.

Avenue Q - is a good choice ! I think they will still be playing by August. Per Telecharge- theyre selling tickets till Jan 2008.

Color Purple is good too- Fantasia is brilliant and should not be miss !

Basically - Almost all the long running shows are worth seeing- Chicago, Rent ( the stage version has a different feel than the movie ),Drowsy Chaperone, Spamalot,
Jersey Boys (Good Luck- if you can get tixs),25th Putnam County Spelling Bee, Spring Awakening and of course Frost Nixon- the last play standing.

Stay away from Disney re: MUST SEE Shows This August.

IMO DEFINETLY...
spring awakening
a chorus line
les miserables
drowsy
wicked

in that order.... hope that helps!

dont see rent... do yourself and your wallet a favor!

Well, I suppose it's worth it if you're a big enough Rent fan.

Also, don't forget to consider Off-Broadway.

Wonderful, Drowsy will be on tour in Boston next Spring so I'm not sure if I would want to see the Broadway show or just the tour. FROST/NIXON- eh, I don't really enjoy plays that much.

See Xanadu.. I had mixed feelings about it too untill I actually saw it. It's really a must-see summer show. Get the On-Stage seats for $40!

How do you order on-stage seats? Are there any currently available or are they sold out like SA?

You can get them online, and they usually sell out a week before the actual performance date these days.

BroadwayEnthusiast, if you're taking touring into consideration, Avenue Q will also be in Boston next March.

If your talking about XANADU onstage seating for $ 40.00 go to Telecharge
and choose Onstage seating option , instead of Orchestra or Mezzanine.

My advice to a fellow bostonian.. see XANADU and after the show..you'll be..

Drowsy Chaperone is a good show, one of my favorite show. Watching it here in Boston- I dont know about that? I rarely see touring company here in Boston, unless
I like the cast, which I mean to say.. the cast is only second rate to Broadway...
Besides the Opera House has a terrible acoustics, though its very pretty...but an awkward theater for musicals. very wide and the ceiling is very high..unlike the Colonial, Shubert & Emerson which is perfect for musicals....just my thought

Getting a chance to see RENT with the two original leads should def. be a consideration, but to each their own.

Avenue Q & ACL are two of the shows with highest priority on my "to see" list
Drowsy is cute and fluffy. Definitely worth checking out.
Forbidden Broadway is a great, quick show to see if you are into theater. Full of laughs.
Spamalot - if you like humor and Monty Python
Les Mis - a must if you have never seen it all before

Spamalot- it is a sold out show, so it's not a priority to me. Les Miz- I heard the current production is horrible and I wouldn't want to waste my money on a horrible re-production.

That's because you need to go to Telecharge and not to a scalpers' website.

And don't go near Spamalot. It's horrible (at least w/ the current cast).
