Clive Davis is behind a potential new mounting of the show and I'm nervous he'll cast some American Idol cast-off as Eliza...
Why in the world wold Clive Davia want to produce MY FAIR LADY?
$20 says they are wanting Anne Hathaway.
In the revival in my head, Jessie Mueller plays Eliza, but obviously the production in my head is not this production. Still, imagine her singing "I Could've Danced All Night"...okay, I'm done now.

Laura Michelle Kelly as Eliza Doolittle please! Her voice is gorgeous and the role fits her like a glove.
I know it's a classic and all that but I find this show to be such a snooze.
Then again I'm not a Lerner and Loewe fan.

Clive Davis ... why? He's probably gonna want to put some idiot like Alicia Keys in the lead role.
Keep in mind that this is a "classic" that has never had a successful revival. They need a Hugh Jackman-esque name to have any hope of this succeeding.
Can Jessica Chastain sing by chance?

Maybe Julie Andrews could play Mrs. Pierce. Marni Nixon was able to play the role several years after the film.
Even if she could, she can't even sell out THE HEIRESS. Honestly, MY FAIR LADY is an enormous show with a huge cast. Without A++++++ List stars in both roles, there's no point in them even trying.
You don't think her future Oscar win would help? Maybe someone like her and Hugh (who needs to admit Houdini is DOA)?
She would need a Hugh Jackman type next to her, absolutely. Not saying that I want Hugh Jackman because honestly, I think he needs to take a break for a little while, but someone of his name caliber.
this has trainwreck all over it. SMASH will get cancelled due to low ratings and we'll have McPhee as Eliza. I see it already.
Will it be worst then your typing and grammar?
I know Michelle Dockery has played Eliza in Pygmalion and I know she sings, so if they wanted someone well-known but not a megastar, she has my vote.
But I would also be wildly in favor of Jessica Chastain.
This is one show I never want to see again. It's boring.
Robert Downey Jr as Higgins and either Toni Collette or Laura Benanti as Eliza.
Carrie Underwood, would be perfect if you wanted to modernize it. Or dare i DREAM and say Adele? she DOES sound like Eliza before HH got a hold of her!

I was about to suggest Anthony Warlow, Alexander Hanson, Michael Cervais, or Stephen Burntrock as Henry Higgins, but after reading Jordan's post about A+ stars that probably won't happen. Maybe one of them could play Colonel Pickering. Angela Lansbury could also play Mrs. Pierce. As for Henry Higgins, Colin Firth, maybe?

I can totally see Katherine getting Eliza if Smash is cancelled. One more reason as to why the show should be kept on the air. Could anyone see Patrick Stewart as Higgins?

The Trevor Nunn staging done in London a decade ago was exquisite but it couldn't tranfer to Broadway without stars.
If Clive Davis could get Trevor Nunn to direct and at least one bona fide star in one of the leads he could have a hit.
But if he hires Rob Ashford or Jerry Mitchell to direct, this has flop written all over it.
How about Kristin Chenoweth?..or is she too old?
