"Mame" coming to Broadway.......yes or no????

I know this is an old subject.....so forgive another posting on the same subject.

All over the boards 2 weeks ago, it was announced, that last week an official announcement would come if "Mame" would go to NYC.

So far........nothing!!!! What's up with that??? "Mame" closes 1 week from today on Sunday, July 2nd.

If it's supposed to open at the end of July......that's in 3 weeks.

So far it looks like 'no' for money reasons.

God forbid that Jerry Herman, with tons of money, should write a check to finance this production.
Do you know what happens when you let Veal Prince Orloff sit in an oven too long?

Hello Dolly is eyeing the Palace.

Tovah Feldshuh said "Mr. Nederlander, we're ready" last Wednesday on Joan Hamburg's radio show.

Just wishful thinking on my part, I'd love to see Christine Baranski as Mame, and sorry I couln't get down to DC.

Mame is not an official "no" yet. From what I understand it still looks like a possibility. As for Tovah in Dolly....no thanks.

No composer or producer with a right mind would ever invest their own money in a show. Maybe a pay cut. Originally the MAME production thought it could move because the Kennedy Center allowed them to bring the sets, etc in exchange for producing credit/advertising. They found they would still need to raise an additional $5mm or so and couldn't find enough investors . Too many high profile revivals coming up this season for investors to put in their money with too much competition for the Tony. That's usually how they get the angels to bite...the Tony!

EDIT: I know investors don't get Tonys, but a big enough one to get Producing credit might be included on the dias.

Hello Dolly, is currently playing at The Papermill in NJ, virtually sold out, and I think it's time is due.
Actually, I'd like to see both Mame and Dolly make it to Broadway this season, and I know it's a stretch, but I'd love to see it happen.

I miss Ems on Broadway too. re: 'Mame' coming to Broadway.......yes or no???? So I was hoping for Mame to pop into the Palace.

The production of HELLO DOLLY at PPM will absolutely not be coming to Broadway. In fact, Papermill did DOLLY this season, because there are already plans afoot for a Broadway revival, and the regional rights are going to be pulled in the next season or two.

There is already a major Broadway star who is talks for the leading role and the producers who control the Broadway rights have been in talks with a potential directors and designers for their production team.

Tovah ain't going to be playing the Palace this summer or anytime soon...

Alright, Michael B., I'll bite (although you're probably going to keep mum):

Who's the big Broadway star in talks for Hello Dolly? It would be a bit unfair to hold that one back from us =)

I'm not going to blab, but it shouldn't be hard to figure out - she is the person most people have suggested for the part, and she's already done two shows created by one of the original Dollys.

Sorry, I guess I just don't considering "blabbing" when one has already gone so far as to discuss the situation in detail. If it's factual, as the info you report always is, it's just a statement.

Thank you for the clues! Glad the poster above me figured it out and also didn't care to give a name. I'll just do a little research, I guess =)

God no, not Bernadette.

And how typical of Mr. Michael Bennett to brag about all this info he knows, and never lets the cat out of the bag. Gotta love it..
