I need a way to persuade my sister that mamma mia is a good show. I've already ran the tonys and the reviews past her. She won't budge. Her claim "I hate abba. I can't stand 2 hours of their music." but i REALLY want to see mamma mia and so does my father. But the family agreed that the desicion has to be mutual and so i REALLY NEED A WAY TO GET TO SEE THIS PLAY.

Give her something that she really wants. A good bribe really works- seems like she's hooked on not seeing. Or try to compromise- If she sees Mama Mia on this outing, she can pick the next show with no complaints from you. You gotta give and take.

Well, I just saw the show a few weeks ago for the first time. After seeing the Thanksgiving Parade performance, well...needless to say I was less than enthused. I too was not a big fan of ABBA, unlike my mother who accompanied me. She picked to see that show, and I picked Gypsy as the other show we were going to see. Anyway, I had a really good time. I only knew 1 ABBA song prior to seeing Mamma Mia! and I still enjoyed myself quite a bit. The new cast has great energy and there's no doubt, unless she's extremely difficult, that she shouldn't at least somewhat enjoy the show.

If your mother doesn't like ABBA, then unless seeing Joe and other hot boys are enough of a plus, she isn't likely to enjoy MAMMA MIA. Why can't you and your father see MAMMA MIA and your mother can go across the street and see WICKED and then everyone can have a nice dinner after and discuss their shows?

being a non so intense theater person, mamma mia was worth seeing. i saw it when jenny fellner(sp?) first started doing the show, and she did a fantastic job. go see it people. it won't kill you.

It's just a fun upbeat show. You laughing from the start to the end...even the way the incorporate the songs into the dialogue is hilarious. I can't speak for the new broadway cast, but the previous broadway cast was incredible (Louise Pitre, David Keeley, Tina Maddigan, etc).
By the way, I never liked Abba until I saw the show...now I love them. Infact, I couldn't see the show just once...I've seen it 6 times in Toronto (going on 7) and once in NY

whopee. i've printed all the good stuff about mamma mia and handing it to her. next step:bribe. by the way,we're talking about my sister. my mother just wants the entire desicion on whatever play we're seeing to be mutual since we come to ny a couple times a year but we don't live there.

There's a difference between "not liking" ABBA music because you don't know it and not liking ABBA music because it greats your nerves. If your sister is one of those people who can't sit through ABBA Gold without wanting to throw the CD player out the window, chances are, she's not going to enjoy the show.

My advice is to get either that CD or the Mama Mia CD and play it for her. ABBA music can be rather infectious and she may enjoy it.
