I actually went to the stage door at Les Mis last time and when she came to me, I couldn't think of anything to say but "you don't wear a wig?" LOL
she wasn't really that great. She's not terrible, she's just not really...good.
I listened to her on the forbidden site as well...the first verse of the opening thing I thought she was fine and was wondering what everyone was talking about....and then it cut to "sometimes I walk alone.." and I understood. She sounds childish/fake. Let's bring in Megan!!!!
Istillbelieve24601, I also hate the double-cover Cosette/Eponine thing. I prefer when I hear a voice and can say “That’s a Cosette voice, she could never sing Eponine with a voice like that” and visa-versa. It helps add contrast to their characters.
Now I realize some actress are good at both roles and can make a contrast between Eponine and Cosette in their acting. But I think vocal contrast also helps. I also don’t get the double Valjean/Javert covers in London either.
I wouldn't really want to see Marrisa McGowan in the part. She's also a cover for Cosette. If one more soprano gets a brilliant belter part like Eponine I'm going to scream.
Being a soprano and being able to belt aren't mutually exclusive though. And Marissa McGowan can belt.
I saw the show on Friday night, and if she was starting to get sick then, she certainly didn't sound it. Hope she gets better soon!
Thanks for the info ! Hope she's better soon !!

You’re right, but being a soprano might inhibit one’s ability to hit a low F.

istillbeleive, i saw marissa mcgowan as eponine and lea salonga as fantine ( honestly, i was just glad it wasn't daphne ruben vega)
i didn't know that she was the voice for those disney movies! i'm pretty sure my friends will be more obsessed now..
I come bearing good news. I think they are getting rid of her. My agent called today and they are having auditions for eponine.

Or was Mandy never intending to stay that long in the first place?

She must still be doing double duty since she's still on Guiding Light as well. I listened to the OMO audio and I agree with everyone here. Not a horrible singer, but her interpretation is just not good. It's not surprising since she isn't that good on GL either. Too bad though because she seems like a nice girl.
I actually liked Mandy as Eponine. True, there are many better ones, and they should have chosen one of the understudies instead, but I liked the way she played her. I almost liked her as much as Celia! (DONT KILL ME!!!!!!!!)

Wicked_beast4, I am not going to kill you, but I am curious to know what you liked about Mandy's Eponine.

FYI!
Both Ben Davis and Mandy have been out lately: http://bigsis222.multiply.com/journal/item/72
Do you think it may be allergies? I live in the NY area and have mild pollen allergies, but I've been really suffering from them the past two weeks...
I definitely don't think Mandy was going to last long, and thought that as soon as I saw the casting assignment, even if she was a good Eponine. She doesn't have a Broadway background, and other actors with previous Broadway credits have had trouble physically keeping up with the strain of being on a Broadway production with Les Mis. She's bitten off far more than she can chew, and needs to prioritize, putting her health and Les Mis ahead of Guiding Lights.
Whatever that bug is, it's pretty nasty; I think Celia and Max have both had it too. Whatever it is, it's really making the rounds in this cast.

Actually, I liked Mandy's Eponine too. She was real...not put on. You believed her. I saw it with Ceilia and where she did have the pipes, I agree that Mandy was more the character. She can act, you have to give her that. She wasn't "performing" to an audience. She was living her role. Her voice was good the night I saw her. I hear she has been sick though and has still been trying to stay on through it. She's supposed to be off for the weekend to be on vocal rest. I think if she gets some rest she may change people's minds. I really liked her.

Thats a shame about Ben Davis. Ive heard really good things about him but he keeps falling ill. I remember him being out a bunch of shows at the start of his run due to some viral infection or something like that
I am wondering just how long Les Mis will continue to extend for because if they keep going we may have a chance to see Lea Michele who has still said she really wants a shot to play that part. After the Tony's she may get her shot.

Saw the matinee today. Mandy Bruno was back. Don't know what the deal was, if she had been sick or what, but she was AMAZING!! Actually one of the best Eponine's I've seen. Solid performance and she hit it with On My Own...brought the house down. Actually, I was really impressed with pretty much everyone. Some of the ensemble segments were a little weak, but it was a matinee.

Yeah, and he's not too happy about it, either!

Oh wow. Well, I would be frustrated too if I'd been out as much as he's been. Hopefully he gets healthy and stays that way and is able to perform.
