One of the things that made Mandy Gonzalez's casting so exciting was the fact that she was fresh and new- she had never played the role in any other company. Now they're back to bringing in the same old performers who've done the role for years and years around the country.

"Teal Wicks couldn't handle the role 8 times a week, and almost never did 8 shows a week."
She's had almost a a whole year off and I'm sure her voice has healed by now. Caissie Levy took some time off before doing "Hair." Plus, I think Teal would like to have a final performance as Elphaba eventually. She didn't perform on her last one in Los Angeles and was only able to do Act 1 on her last in San Francisco. Idina Menzel eventually got to have a last show in London.
I’m wondering if Kendra Kassebaum would be tapped to be Gilnda again since LEAP OF FATH didn’t pan out for a spring opening. They seem to like pairing witches who have worked together before. With Etai BenShlomo and the rumor about a “San Francisco Fiyero” coming in, it could be a reunion of the SF cast.
Teal being Elphaba would be the thing that finally gets me to New York.

Teal's voice appears to be in fine shape. From a review of "The Blue Flower":
And I’m recommending that they just round up this cast and take them into a studio to create a cast recording. The voices are beautiful, led by the remarkable gifts of Wicks, who produces a sweet and soulful sound. Her “(Let It) Slide Through Your Hands” is a tender and touching highlight of the show.

and the rumor about a “San Francisco Fiyero” coming in
It will not be Nicholas Dromard, he's playing Bert in the national tour of "Mary Poppins." The Fiyero you might be thinking of is Cliffton Hall. Still, I don't know how long Andy Karl is contracted for.

If Cliffton AND Deedee Magno Hall come to the New York production, THEN I will see it.
Personally I think Teal coming back would be a great error in judgement on both the producers part, and hers. Her voice obviously took a beating from the role, her voice has never been the same since her mid LA run. And after SF, it seemed like her voice was always falling flat. Again, it's been a year for her to get her strength back, but I just cant see her coming back and doing it 8 times a week for another stint. Plus, I found her acting and vocals to be a bit of a let down.
I want someone new, they are repeating and bringing in old Elphaba's over and over again. The 2 Elphaba's they cast who were new have been success stories, why not keep doing it?
If they must bring in someone old though, I would love for it to be either Carmen, Donna, or maybe Shoshana.
If anyone is seeing Teal, I recommend wearing your pajamas and bringing a pillow, as her Elphaba is so boring that it makes you look forward to the melting scene. She is not the worst Elphaba, of course. That honor goes to sing-in-your-head-voice, "rock star" Elphaba, Kristy Cates.
The next Fiyero isn't from San Francisco or any other current Wicked company.
Isn't David Nathan Perlow from La Cage joining the cast as either Fiyero or an u/s?

Too bad Andy isn't extending.

I see the "hatahs" are here. Too much snow in CA, appearantly.....LOL.
You know - different people like different things. I've had friends who saw "Wicked" say they hated the show. Of course, I think they are nutso, but then again, there are shows others have raved about that I won't bother to see again or recommend to anyone. So, if you don't like Teal, don't go to see her. I have found some Elphaba's painful to watch and hear after seeing Teal. But, that's just me. There are others that I have enjoyed, however. Each actor brings their own "read" to the character. That's what keeps the show interesting and keeps me coming back.

^ I agree...I have so far seen Carmen, Donna and Vicki...although I didnt enjoy what I saw from Teal (from um..a certain place) doesnt mean I hated her. For instance, I think her "No Good Deed" is superb. She really brings alot to the role, just not what I pictured for Elphaba. However, the three ladies I have seen play Elphaba (total of 7 times of seeing the show) have all brought something so unique and brilliant to the role which is a toughie to play.
Count me as one who will be thoroughly shocked if Teal lands on Broadway. I'm a fan of hers but her San Fran run was a mess. People keep referencing Caissie Levy; but she didn't return to the vocal slaughterhouse that is Wicked. She went to Hair, and while Sheila has some high stuff to sing, it is nowhere near as draining and damaging as Elphaba. However, similar to Caissie, Teal's voice is not meant to sing the role 8x a week. She's shown that not once, but twice.

Does anyone have any clue when Katie's contract will be up or when to expect a new Glinda?
Really? I heard she was leaving around the time Mandy left...I'm not complaining, I adore her as Glinda...just thought I heard thats what was going down.
^ She renewed her contract. Not sure why they even offered her a renewal as she's always out.
Lindsay K. Northern has been understudying Glinda on broadway for years now, give her some time to be bumped up. I've heard she's great. Same thing with Jennifer Dinoia and Stephanie Torns.
It doesn't surprise me that Katie renewed seeing as she is notorious for long runs (nearly two full years on the 1NT). In regard to new Glindas, I seriously doubt Lindsay will ever see a promotion. If an understudy gets promoted it is normally rather fast and seeing as she has been with the production since early 2007 and hasn't been picked for any of the openings over the years, I doubt she will ever play the role full-time.

Teal was in Las Vegas promoting the upcoming the tour stop back in September and she sounds great.

Yea but thats one song (that is nowhere near as vocally demanding as the other numbers in the show.) I think returning to a role that destroyed her voice twice would be um...a mistake.
As a fan of Teals, that was pretty pitchy. I love her though. She was always on when I saw it in L.A. in top shape. I thought she was a wonderful Elphaba. Although I would have loved a new actress in the role and I always do, I think Teal is a good choice. But I would rather her not ruin her great voice.
A few months into her SF run
It would be really nice to see a brand new Glinda come in, not taking away from Elphaba of course, but for me Glinda makes the show :)
