I think the selling point for most things nowadays is nostalgia - and whether that be someone like me who saw the show as a child and has a lot of warm, fuzzy, "oooh Rococo-era story line with pretty costumes and Douglas Sills" memories towards it, or to those that legitimately liked it back then and now, it does make the dollar signs pop up. Its working for Hollywood and TV right now, so why not for MCP/Broadway.
Still no word on who will be playing Percy, but I just got my ticket!
Looking forward to reliving my late teenage glory days

So I saw in the BwayCon program guide they were giving a coupon code for the show.... do we think they'll ever announce a lead? Maybe everyone will play the part in chunks? Or maybe they'll just surprise the audience? I'm buying a ticket regardless, but this seems odd that it is under a month away and there's no news.
Would anyone be willing to share that code? Not sure if there was already a discount out there or not. Thanks!!

Maybe one person will play Percy and one will play Grappin. I'm not even sure if I'm joking!

LizzieCurry - not gonna lie, that's sort of what I'm imagining.
We are officially under a month from this and we STILL don't have a leading man announcement. Maybe they just won't reveal it at all and we'll just find out when we get there. Seriously though, this is kinda silly. They will sell more of the remaining tickets if they said who was gonna be the damn star of the show.

Maybe they're playing up the "who is the Scarlet Pimpernel" thing to the extreme? Like we won't know who it is until Percy steps on stage. (Not the best way to sell tickets, but it makes for good drama!)
My gut at this point says it's Doug, but who knows!
I'm pretty shocked we don't have a Pimpernel cast yet, but I am still beyond excited to see this! I love the score, but have never seen the show live, so this will be a real treat for me!

It would never work, especially in a social media age. All it would take is one chatty ensemble member to spill the beans. Even with the strictest of non-disclosure agreements on Hello Dolly, there were leaks.
That and think of all the press agents and even (or especially) the people who have to approve and write the copy even the stuff that's not public-facing. Keeping this kind of a secret until curtain would be incredibly difficult and probably not worth the trouble.

That would be my main thing - if they tried to do this, I doubt they could keep it completely under wraps.
Still no announcement for the lead?
This is still happening...right?

This is beginning to be my concern as well... IS this still actually happening...?
Tony Yazbek! YES!

Awesome! Very happy for him!
However he doesn't really fit the clues that they gave out earlier. I'm guessing something happened with their original choice(s)?

Ugh... I find Tony Yazbeck so bland.
Actually kind of surprised with this choice... I would've thought they would've lined up with a bigger voice from the Wildhorn-world: Ryan Silverman, Rob Evan, Jeremy Jordan, etc
Isn't Tony Yazbeck a baritone? Percy is very much a tenor role. I guess Gavin Creel backed out and they needed a "name."
Pretty sure with this that it was SUPPOSE to be Gavin Creel that backed out when Waitress came calling. I can't lie that I'm a LITTLE disappointed with this casting. It's nothing against Yazbeck who is a great singer and dancer but I just... I can't see it. I mean I'm gonna see it as I already have my tickets. I'm going for the score, Osnes, and Lewis but I was hoping for a bit more of an exciting leading actor here. This sadly feels like not just a second choice but a 4th or 5th choice when everyone else said no or was already busy.

I'll admit when I read this, my first thought was, "Isn't that the guy who wrote the score to The Band's Visit?" (No, self, that's *David* Yazbeck).
I'll admit I don't know anything about Tony Yazbeck, and I also suspect a "name" like Gavin Creel fell through. I somehow ended up planning a weekend trip from the west coast to see this. It's not the most exciting casting decision for my personally, but I'm looking forward to seeing Tony's take on the role, and to get to hear these songs performed.
It was supposeD to be a graduate of U Mich, which left two prominent possibilities... and that's not where Yazbeck went!
