Your dream is to get a selfie with Barry Manilow? Okay."
He’s my favorite male performer of all time, so yes.
Looks like he signed after first performance:

Hmm. This thread got a bit of a scrubbing. Probably for the best!
Sure has. Looks like speculation that BM has had any visual assistance, apart from vocal help, will not be tolerated for the protection of the purity of the readers.
The blandness that is now apparent as if each thread is scrubbed down with Blue Omo[a real brand name of a cleaning product].

What is so funny there still exists some comments that are so clearly negative to anyone that reads them, except to the person(s) doing the deleting. They are smartly, yet thinly disguised shade. Went right over their head.

Don't ask him. He still denies he's had any work done."
The photos on opening night tell another story. His face looks almost plastic and there is no change of expression from the upper lip to the hairline, which is unfortunate because part of communicating with an audience is with facial expressions. I'm surprised so many actors/performers do this because faces become almost expressionless.

Even at the height of his career, Manilow had a reputation, deserved or not, for being too middle-of-the-road and saccharine. It seemed people either loved him or hated him and his style of music. That's probably still true to a certain extent.
I actually saw he and his husband on the street yesterday evening and he looked fine. He does not look his age, but of course looks older, and he appeared to be sans any make-up. Some of the comments on here have been quite rude.He can do whatever he pleases to his face if he wants to. It is his choice. Don't go see him if it bothers you. I would like to hear about the show and not how he looks because he is looking the way he does all the way to the bank. JMO

Agreed. One reason celebrities likely resort to extreme plastic surgery is the overly critical analysis of their appearance to begin with. It’s almost a no win predicament for some. Don’t have any cosmetic enhancements and the public says you’ve really let yourself go. And do too much and you get criticized for that too.
I liked all the music in junior high that sold well but it wasn’t cool to admit to listening to. Barry Manilow, ABBA, Olivia Newton-John, Shaun Cassidy. I was so uncool, I didn’t even realize it was uncool to admit.
I wish Barry Manilow well on his time on Broadway.

You left out The Carpenters and Helen Reddy.

He wasn't what everyone was listening to when I was in school but he was still popular. Mostly with the white students but some of us black students listened to him. His music was part of a lot of special times in my youth.
I plan to grab a ticket and see him. Mid to rear upper mezz is only $49.00. I just want to hear that music. I know I will be a nostalgic mess afterwards!

I did listen to The Carpenters!
We've Only Just Begun.
A side step but aeons ago, if Peter Allen was[were?] played in a gay nightclub--the dance floor would empty so don't know if it were the song[Rio of course] or Peter--gay backlash?
Added.....
A few years ago I was in a DVD shop in Bali and the music and vision of Barry Manilow filled the shop. I stopped still and the tears flowed as the memory, the melodies and those times filled my senses like nothing else could. The Carpenters/Manilow/Allen/Manchester etc etc. I even ache at the sound of the Bee Gees.
The power of music.

You could just have helped me out with the correct word, I would have thanked you and respected your response--now you are just a petty sarcastic contributor among[st?!!!] so many wonderfully knowledgeable kindly and informative BWW 'friends'.

Not to go too off topic, but how glorious would it be to have Karen and Richard do a Springsteen-like sit-down if she was still with us? I can dream.....

Adding to off topic....it always makes me sad to hear a Carpenter's song with Karen's gorgeous voice.
What even is this thread? If I mention Patti Murin will it get deleted and we can start a new one?

What else is there to say? It's a concert with a pretty locked in setlist. I've seen him three times in concert. I was entertained. Would I fill in a Broadway show slot, if visiting, to see him. Probably not. If you like his music and have never seen him live, then go.

The problem is, one can’t help but remark on his looks because it is so ridiculously jarring. There are wax figures that look more lifelike than he presently does. I appreciate his music and have even seen him in concert. I like his music, but to NOT remark on the surgery would be like not remarking on someone kicking you in the groin.

Of course, one can help making unkind remarks. It just requires some impulse control and a modicum of kindness, something that is occasionally in short supply on these boards. Seeing someone whose looks you don’t approve of is not the same thing as being kicked in the groin. One is someone simply existing in the world while the other is a conscious aggressive act directed toward you. I would think making publicly unkind remarks about a person’s appearance is much more comparable to being kicked in the groin as both are designed to not increase the public good and are conscious behaviors.

I too am curious arsol, that's probably close to where his voice is coming from these days---you know what is said about excessive facials.
