Interesting question.

The April 28th cut off date - that means the show must be open by that date, right? So how long after do the voters have to vote? There's like 800+ voters so do they all have to vote?
"

Nominations are the morning of May 3, so voters have a little more than a month.
"

Ohh ok so then their vote needs to be in at latest May 3?

I work in an NYC hospital, there are definitely cases. Not as many as the height of covid surge in 2020, but still some. We all hope for a time when there are none, but we can't ignore that it's still possible for some to get very sick once infected. Those of us who lived through it and are going on with life are fairly lucky. I'm willing to wear a mask (and continue keeping up with immunizations like with any other illness) as long as needed to prevent even 1 death. Though some may very well have PTSD, that's not the only reason to continue to take medical precautions- same as your annual physical, dental checkups, flu vaccine, tetanus boosters, etc.

I mean, if your screen name has the word patriot, you're almost definitely trolling, but

we don’t have a pandemic any longer -

NYC average cases per day, over the last week: 2,258 (Increasing)

Why is so much misleading or erroneous information posted on this board? Why feed a troll with fuel? It's not that hard to comprehend where we are at. I am and have been an advocate of tough mandates until they no longer make sense. Cases do not make a pandemic. Quality masks provide robust protection without regard to anyone else. Just as the theatre evolves, so too do our protocols for covid. I wear a mask indoors among people and will until I reach the next level of comfort. I am double boosted. But it's not April of 2020 and I am not hearing nonstop ambulance sirens out my window. Hospitalizations and deaths are flat and if we filter out the idiots, they are decreasing. My zip code is fully vaccinated and no one is headed to the hospital. Half the people I know have had covid in 2022. Just as a ton of performers have, and most of our politicians. Very few have any symptoms and even those have just a nuisance. Everyone is in charge of their own comfort levels and apprehension of safety but a pandemic is not about that; it's about a public health crisis and we are not having one of those now.

This statement has no basis in reality. Everyone knows that.

First of all, I am a part of everyone so you are manifestly wrong. Second, you don't know my zip code or what people I know so you cannot directly compete with an answer to my statement. Third, it is demonstrable that well-vaccinated people are routinely experiencing few if any symptoms. To try to focus you, there is not a single report of a Broadway performer who had covid who was seriously ill or unable to return. Likewise, you will note the same with the politicians we have gone through an infection. We are not in a pandemic. Public officials and scientists don't think we are; on what basis do you think you are smarter than them? Are there still a bunch of cases? Yes. Is that a pandemic? No. We had 9000 TB cases last year. That's not a pandemic either. Is it ok if you personally want to behave as if there is a pandemic? Absolutely, but recognize it is not because there is a pandemic. I am not trying to dissuade you from how you feel; just trying to get you to accept the broader reality even if it is not your own.

Hundreds of people are still dying every day of COVID, but OK, sure, we aren't in a pandemic.

Hospitalizations remain low though.. That's the key number.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I can recognize the direction this is all going. Mask mandates and vaccination requirements are going away, not everywhere but soon enough. It will not matter if a new variant crops up later and kills a bunch of people, or if Long COVID proves to be a serious problem even for the vaccinated. It is in the interests of government and commerce for these measures to go away, and plenty of influential people don’t want to deal with it anymore.

The trouble with theater - for a Covid-cautious person like me - is that everything about it involves sitting in close quarters with people. That’s even more true of a trip to New York City, which entails a long plane flight (now with unmasked people), a hotel, and (usually) lots of indoor dining in addition to the crowded, unventilated theaters.

I would rather be one of those people who is unconcerned, or chalks up the current situation to a calculated risk worth taking. A NYC trip has not been in the cards for me, for reasons not related to Covid, but I have seen a few shows locally. I hope that all the politicians and judges and thinkers are right, and that my caution is unwarranted. But it feels foolish to ignore the public health experts raising concerns about dropping all precautions. I am willing, eager in fact, to have my mind changed about this. I want normalcy too! But I’m not there yet.

They probably just haven't updated their messaging yet. You'll get a different email after April 30th regarding Covid protocols.

Forgive me if this perspective has been shared but should be considered:

AT THIS COVID PROTOCOLS ARE BAD FOR MENTAL HEALTH!

This is what no one speaks on. If you work in any part of the Broadway community you have to get tested multiple times a week. Sometimes a PCR every single day. Outside of having a Q-Tip scrapping your tender mucus membranes, you also have to worry about testing positive. This means missing work for 10 days. This also means you basically can not have a LIFE outside of BROADWAY. You wanna see your family/friends after a show, wanna eat at a restaurant, wanna ride the subway home,  FORGET ABOUT IT. Wanna lay next to your husband in the same bed without wondering if he got Covid from his job. BY GOLLY! THE REST OF THE WORLD HAS MOVED ON but not Broadway.

AND NOT TO MENTION. The protocols do not stop you from testing positive. AT ALL. You got the vaccine and you still test positive. I can't name a single fully vaxxed person working on BWAY who got Covid and had SERIOUS symptoms let alone NOTICABLE symptoms. At this point it really is... I DARE SAY A COLD. (for the fully vaxxed)

I get that COVID created a lot of NEW jobs on broadway and to stop this RIGOROUS testing will leave some unemployed but the paranoia needs to end at some point.

So… I take it you don’t follow Matt Doyle? Who during his quarantine was posting about all his symptoms and how he felt awful? Or Ashley Loren - who did the same thing. Or Natalie Mendoza, who has talked about how she is dealing with long Covid? The list goes on and on…

Many of us in other professions get swabbed multiple times a week and somehow our precious naval cavities somehow have been able to survive.

Yup starting Sunday the Shubert Owned houses will have people in there still enforcing masks, Nederlander houses will not have anyone to enforce masks, and Jujamcyn houses will be the same as well when the one person holds up the sign.

According to Caitlin Huston of The Hollywood Reporter, Moulin Rouge will enforce a vaccination and mask policy for the seating that is near the performers.

So only the Can-Can table seats… or most of the orchestra too?

Tonight is the last shift for many covid vaccine checkers on Broadway.  Just wanted to say thank you for doing this since Broadway reopened.

1000% agree. It simply doesn't makes sense. And anyone who thinks otherwise is being super delusional at this point...and probably has a control problem, or likes to be control...
