For anyone who doesn't want to search through the whole blog for one little item:

The talented Marin Mazzie (Ragtime, Kiss Me Kate) has been discussed as a favorite to play wobbly grand dame Helen Sinclair in the Broadway musical of Woody Allen’s Bullets over Broadway, opening next year. Well, I hear Marin—who did a reading of the show—definitely got the part, and rehearsals start today. As for any fool who doesn’t like the idea…Don’t speak!

That was easy.

This isn't really news as Reidel discussed it a few weeks ago. She has been cast in the lab which is happening now. After that finishes, a decision regarding the Broadway run will be made. Possibly with, or without, Mazzie.

So...she actually doesn't have the part yet for the Broadway production?

Tag is 100% correct, and this is old news. She Is doing the part at the lab, which starts today, but she has not been offered a contract for the role when the show opens. She is obviously the favorite at this point, but until Woody and Stro see how she does over the next few weeks, the jury is still out. This was all discussed in the thread "The casting of Helen Sinclair".

Per a friend in the show, no, Mazzie has not been offered the role in the Broadway production yet. This is a trial run if you will.

I can't imagine she won't be offered the role for Broadway.

I can. It's easy if you try.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

I'd be thrilled for Mazzie if she did get the part for Broadway, but I'm not sure which lady stars are still vying for the role.

Time will tell...

From what I hear, the part's pretty much been hers for quite some time now.

Wonder how the woodman will handle it if the show gets mixed reviews.
