It makes more sense. His background, his dance ability, his charm, the potential to draw even more to a brand new show. Of course, he'd have to play Usnavi-but why not?
Because he can do Broadway NOW, not later, and ITH has a lead, who also wrote the show, who could probably throw up just at the thought of letting some guy playing the role he created, which probably win him a Tony nomination (to Miranda not Lopez, of course)?
Just saying.
Yeah, totally.

It makes more sense because he's latino?
Racist much?
Uh..not what I consider racism.
If there is ever a good role calling for someone of an African-American ethnicity..I always shout out for Audra.
It's because she's African-American.
The role calls for a latino....
Granted, that's not the SOLE reason for why someone is cast. But it can matter.

Fine, not racist.
Ethnocentric much?
better?
Alright. Still missing why it's just a negative point to make.
I don't think it's racist, but silly if a show hasn't even opened yet...why didn't you say that Nicole Richie should be in Gyspsy and not Chicago?
Nicole Richie? Chicago? Gypsy?
...sorry, what?
Well, I do think it's a bit racist to say that just because he is Latino he is more right for Usnavi than he is for Zach.
I'm just commenting on the original post, suggesting that the stunt casting should be done on a show that hasn't even opened, instead of one that is obviously trying desperately to survive.
That's fair.
But that wasn't the sole reason for the poster's thinking, clearly...so I'm going to assume that he/she didn't mean it that way.
blaxx - gotchya.
I could see him being Benny if anything.
when i heard he was coming to broadway , i assumed Fiyero, or Warner in Legally Blonde...ZACH?? i dont think mant people will pay $100 to hear his speaking voice...
Maybe Mario Vasquez, but not Mario Lopez. He is too slick, too polished... no grit.
salutz, I would have cried a little to hear he was Fiyero... Aside from David Burnham being a tough act to follow- I think Mario would, if it's possible, kill that role.
im not saying he would be good...i just thought it would be a "more" fitting role...BTW i saw DB play Fiyero this week, and i didnt like him at all
ohh alright,
well I guess it's subjective. but then again may my opinion matters less because DB was my first Fiyero so I guess it's almost sentimental [no pun intended]? I did really enjoy his dancing through life though.

Lord god, don't be an idiot. A therefore B is not the same as B therefore A.
Can/ does Lopez sing? I know Usnavi does very little real singing, but the other two roles, in Wicked and LB, that were mentioned require a certain amount of vocal ability. Would Lopez even be considered for them? I don't have any idea what his vocal abilities (or limitations, as the case may be) are.
