Matilda's New Campaign: #WhenIGrowUp

They just posted this on their Facebook page. It's a new television commercial I believe.

I personally think it's terrific and the way its staged is so fun and wonderful, especially the quick shot of Matilda walking by herself through the park. I think its remarkable. I especially love the ending when they all strike the Matilda pose.

"It sort of looks like a commercial for a laxative."

When I grow up

I will be regular enough to know

The time of day I usually go

So I won't worry, 'cos

I'll be all grown up

Doesn't make me think of Broadway....or that the show is anything like it actually is.  (And I LOVE that song.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I really enjoy that song and all of Matilda, but that commercial seems to have no connection to the show. This reminds me of the "Broadway" eBay commercials.

Shouldn't an ad for a Broadway musical... y'know, feature visual content relating to the show directly for more than just a second? They're banking on viewers being able to recognize When I Grow Up as being from the musical, and I wouldn't call that a safe assumption to be making.

It seems like the only people that would appreciate it at all..are the people who know the show already. I doubt it would get any new ticket buyers at all..

Maybe if they interspersed some of these scenes with scenes from the show it would make more sense...

wow this is so interesting, i don't think I've ever seen a Broadway commercial using regular people like that. I think it will get people's attention, but its kinda weird because they are not showing people what they are paying for. I don't really know how i feel about it

Very interesting indeed. Personally I think this might be very smart. Because it will appeal to people who don't usually care about Broadway. Because they don't realize it's a commercial for a Broadway show.

I don't know how about you, but when I see a commercial for, say, cars, I usually tune out because I'm not bothered. I think many people might do the same thing with "normal" Broadway ads.

But here you just listen to the song with a "Oh, just another Broadway commercial"-like prejudice, and maybe/hopefully a few people will thing "I like that song", and only then they realize it's from a show. And maybe then they'll want to see it.

Will it work that way? Who knows, but it's certainly an interesting concept!

Just saw the #WhenIGrowUp spot for Matilda, on CBS This Morning. I like it a lot. Interesting. Unique. Dig it! Bravo.

Does anyone know who made the spot?

AKA Marketing/Advertising

Not your typical commercial for a Broadway musical but luv it!

Fun watching... brings the kid out in everyone. Guess the producers wanted a fresh out of the box approach and they got it!

When I Grow Up is such a catchy upbeat tune.
