I never thought for a second he'd return. He is recording and writting a CD and taping GLEE.

I'm glad- he's a TV star. Broadway should be about Broadway performers.

I've heard quite the opposite.

Andrew Samonsky is horrifically bad. He is the only thing about this production that is anything less than stellar. What shame that he'll be a part of the broadcast.

Can anyone think of someone else with name recognition who they could get?
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Maybe they can pull Anderson Davis off the tour for a week...

Why would they want anyone with name recognition? This is a one time only, live broadcast. It isn't like they are selling it on DVD and want a big name for selling power.

I remember reading reviews from everyone on the board when the show opened that stated something to the effect that Morrison was the only weak link in the show. You cannot please everyone, and I think this is a nice break for Mr. Samonsky, who has been working hard in the role for quite a while now, and was a part of the original company, I believe. I am happy for him, and look forward to finally being able to see SOUTH PACIFIC after hearing so much about it for the last few years.

Andrew Samonsky is horrifically bad
Oh, he is not. People throw that term around so easily. If he were "horrifically bad" he never would have been cast. Bartlet Sher didn't put together a beautiful production only to fill it with "horrifically bad" actors.
I never got to see Morrison in the role so I can't compare the two but I did not find Samonsky's performace to be "horrifically bad".
I find his speaking voice to be fairly put upon but I wouldn't label the entire performance as "horrifically bad" just because of that. I even stopped noticing his speaking voice as the show went all. He has a great singing voice. He's kind of "skinny" compared to Morrison but he gives a decent performance.

Love Morrison and all...but, if memory serves, he really wasn't that extraordinary the two times I saw him in the part. That said, I'm on cloud nine knowing that most of the original cast will return for the last few perfomances. After seeing Szot in "The Nose" last Spring, I was reminded what a phenomenal performer he is.

Andrew is rough. Not a particularly good actor, and I'm not a fan of his singing. The only thing I like him more than Matthew is that he looks more like a person in military, but still not really an eye candy.
I agree with TheatreFan4. Anderson will be a good choice!

I wouldn't call Samonsky "horrifically bad", but I will say I didn't find his Joe Cable to be at all likable- which considering what happens with him and Liat, and the emotional punch his death is supposed to carry, is a problem. But that's just me. I didn't LOVE Matt Morrison either- I think I prefer Jason Danieley from the concert version with Reba McEntyre, which is irrelevant in regards to the taping but just a thought.

How has nobody commented on THIS: "I'm glad- he's a TV star. Broadway should be about Broadway performers."
I believe Matthew was a Broadway performer first, just because he is on a hit TV show, doesn't mean he doesn't have his roots in broadway. He reprised the role before GLEE existed.

No one commented on it because we all knew it was meant sarcastically.

Morrison was only mediocre to say the best. If they can get Aaron Lazaar, that will be incredible.
